Really? Give me a fucking break! Call me a racist. I think this sucks balls. www.usatoday.com/life/comics/2011-08-01-black-spider-man_n.htmHalf-black, half-Hispanic Spider-Man revealed
We have an African-American president, so why not an African-American Spider-Man, too? Revealed in Marvel Comics' Ultimate Fallout Issue 4, out Wednesday, the new Spider-Man in the Ultimate universe is a half-black, half-Hispanic teen named Miles Morales. He takes over the gig held by Peter Parker, who was killed in Ultimate Spider-Man Issue 160 in June. In his first appearance, he simply breaks up a fight. But readers will learn the true origin of Morales and how he became the new Spider-Man when Ultimate Spider-Man relaunches in September with a new No. 1 issue. "The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility," says writer Brian Michael Bendis. "He's going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means." The new Ultimate Spider-Man series, as well as Wednesday's Ultimate Fallout issue, will be available digitally the same day as in stores. In the regular Marvel Universe, Peter Parker will still be the same web-swinging Spidey as he has been since his first appearance in 1962. But in the Ultimate line, launched in 2000 to tell contemporary stories, he received a new origin and a reimagined supporting cast that paralleled the Spidey in regular Marvel continuity. Morales' journey will be a similar vehicle for today's fans, says Marvel's editor in chief, Axel Alonso. "What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who's reflective of our culture and diversity. We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker." In addition to an alliterative name, Miles has a connection to his predecessor in how he received his powers. But he will have different abilities, too. Supporting characters such as Peter's Aunt May and Gwen Stacy also will give Miles nuggets of wisdom to help his transition from young kid to New York City superhero. Italian artist Sara Pichelli, who was integral in designing the new Spider-Man's look, says, "Maybe sooner or later a black or gay — or both — hero will be considered something absolutely normal."

I have been involved with a few conversations about this the last few days. IT is controvercial for sure, but, it is not a spur of the moment idea.
1. In the first issue of U. Spidey, if you look at the panel that peter gets bit by the spider, directly behind him is another student, whose face doesn't appear in panel. He is black. So this could be Milo himself.
2. When new characters are created, they tend to not sell well and end up disappearing soon after. Take GRAVITY for example who was created as sort of a modern version of Spider-Man style character. Not powers but personality and issues. Additionally, characters of color or sexual diversity also tend to fail because some people don't want to read about characters with those differences.
3. When all of the major long term characters were created, we were more of a moncultural society. Even in the early sixties before the Civil Rights movement.
4. Bendis, who has written this book from the beginning, does it because he loves the character, not because its a job. He writes enough books as it is. But, the bigger bit of info is this, Bendis has two adopted children. Both, are black. Obviously this is something that is personal to him.
5. Finally, look at how they introduced him. The main character is killed, a couple of issues pass, and then a new Spider-Man is presented. It is all done in an existing long running series and slid in under the readers noses. All before having to create a new series to introduce him. This way they can tell a couple of stories to get people used to him and then go for the relaunch which is two months away.
The part that is screwed up here, is how the hamfisted dipshits at Marvel advertised him to the media in order to build some interest. When asked by reporters why they made Spidey Black, they could have answered with a simple "Why not?" that would have mede the reporters look bad for asking dumb questions.
Hell this is not the only character change news in the news today. Lawrence Fishburne, who is an outstanding actor, was just cast as PErry White in the new Superman film.
Anyhow, we will see how this all plays out. I am buying a copy just for the first appearance.

He writes enough books as it is.But, the bigger bit of info is this, Bendis has two adopted children. Both, are black. Obviously this is something that is personal to him. I could really give a shit about Bendis's personal life and how it relates to a comic. If that is the case it is self serving. I tend to think its not all that wholesome though. I feel its more blatant sensationalism and quick hype. Every fanboy and speculator will run off and grab a 1st appearance. It probably WILL sell out and be a high dollar back issue. At least for a time. But in reality, it ends up feeling empty to me. Why does Spider-man need to be black and Hispanic? Why does this Spider-man need to look like a young Obama? God, I'm so sick of every character just changing for the sake of change. It's no wonder people yearn for Valiant to rise up again like a Phoenix and put the comic collecting world on it's ear again. Although it's pretty obvious it won't be Valiant doing it, there are tons of collectors out there that would feel really great just to have some really solid story-telling in a universe that isn't trying to feel like some dramatic movie tie-in moment every 12 issues. We just want solid characters in a solid universe. The only constant lately has been shock value change. Change who is in the costume. Kill them off. Revamp, Start over. You would never think that any of these properties were ever successful. It all keeps being called outdated and we keep being thrown phrases like "this is a character for the 21st century and we feel our audience will relate to the more contemporary storylines." Bullshit, they haven't got a clue. I think if I had the money, the resources and the talent available to me, I think I could give collectors what they want. The dwindling numbers and the constant outcries speak for themselves. But you keep having creators sucking each other's dick and saying "hey, thats a great idea". It's become a huge circle jerk. Just watch these guys talk on Twitter. They all got each other's back. What they feel is more important than what the rest of us want. They keep acting like the rest of us are morons if we don't comply to what bs they keep dishing out. These guys suck. They keep fucking up characters and comics in general. Bad enough Spider-man had to be a member of the Fantastic Four this year in virtually a useless role at the cost of Johnny Storm. Now we need to be shown that we need a black Spider-man because obviously none of the other races could relate to the white one. Don't have a successful character and change his skin color after 50 years of success. You want a successful black character? Make one. All this shit is just the easy road. Let's be ashamed that we're white and have heroes. Fucking make a black hero successful. Don't change the skin color of one that is because it's convenient and its going to make you into some kind of hero. Should see Bendis bragging about himself on Twitter like he just broke some barriers and freed us all from racism. Yeah, he broke new ground here. He knew what he was doing. He just cashed in. Call me a racist and closed minded if you like but my fucking white ass ain't buying none of it.

When you pick up the comic, that's what you should fucking get. Trying to reuse the name so a writer can stir up a little controversy and make a bigger name for himself is bullshit. Fuck Marvel and DC both. I was going to ignore the thread because I don't think Marvel (or DC) dignify a response to their bullshit. They should just be ignored until they have to fire everyone and especially whoever came up with this asinine idea. df1

Spider-Man 2099 had a spanish Spider-Man. its not like this is a new thing. That book ran for a couple of years and the character is still popular enough that he has appeared in a few recent comics and also in the newest Spider-Man game.
I picked up The first appearance of the character yesterday and read it. They only focus on him for about half of the book if that. We will see what happens with them.

So African-American and Latino-Americans can't have versions of classic superheroes that they can relate too? Be my guest. Just don't care for them taking over existing characters. First off this is NOT new to the Ultimate Universe. Nick Fury is white in the Marvel Universe and black in the Ultimate universe, the Wasp is white in the Marvel Universe and Asian in the Ultimate Universe.Second the Ultimate Universe is not for people like you and me, it is for younger people. The Ultimate Universe never has been for me and it never will be so I'll still consider those characters who they are until they change in the regular universe. What goes on in Ultimate really doesn't concern me. Even black ass Spiderman. For that matter, regular Marvel doesn't mean much to me either. Too late now. I'm just saying this ain't a step in the right direction. As far as I'm concerned. Third-I'm sick and tied of these white heroes. America is multi-culture and anything that helps breaks down racial barriers is a GREAT thing. I don't have a problem with black heroes or any other color for that matter, but don't take white heroes and make them black so we can act like we just broke new racial barriers. I don't think the character was a problem being white. Fourth-If you don't like it then don't buy it. I'm not buying it. Done deal. I don't even have to discuss this further. It's done. Fifth-Grow the fuck the up and get the fuck over it. I don't really understand this comment but I see it as directed at me and it really doesn't matter who it's directed at, its inappropriate. Being it is at me, I will say I don't care for that lack of respect and I can only say I ain't gonna tolerate that here. I ain't never said anything to you like "grow the fuck up". I don't need you here man if that's how you want to talk to me. If you don't like the things I say, don't come here. I'm always fine with your differing opinions no matter how strongly you felt. We haven't always agreed, but if we did, it would be boring. I'm all for you disagreeing with me. But don't talk to me or anyone else here like that. I've always given you more respect than that. The only rule I've ever had here is no flaming and I think that clearly crosses the line. I don't get enough out of this for the amount of time I've put into this place, to put up with comments like that.
