I didnt know this originally, but I checked out the guy's site. 1 issue of this did come out as an indy. I would love to have it. There wasnt enough funding to complete the series and it folded. He does show a cover for a 2nd issue. The Linsner cover is misleading, I agree. I remember opening the book and thinking "this is crap" but my friend was like...read it, its pretty good. I did. I got into. I must admit the 1st and 2nd volume was my favorite. Especially the 1st. By the 3rd, the yarn has grown old and it gets serious. The anti-christ story comes to a climax. I dont even remember how it ends. To me, the best part was the beginning where its hardly even touched and just learning the characters are fun.
It's cool you guys dont care for it. I just threw it out there. I was expecting someone to have read it besides me. I dont know...just thought maybe somebody else had. Like I said. Not my normal vein of books either. But, I gave it a shot and thought it was pretty decent. I cant defend it otherwise, try as I may. I'm just going to let this thread die (hopefully).

His art is more suited towards underground work or comedy. Hey! Well, maybe one of the less well done undergrounds... Sorry gowaltrip, the story may well be good but if I can't enjoy the art, I don't see myself getting much enjoyment out of it.

It's better than Mike Diana's work! At least it is in my opinion. Part of the problem is that he's trying to be serious and can't pull it off. If he leaned more towards underground/cartoon work, he could loosen up his art style and do something more fun. Look at how successful Dilbert was. You can't get art more simplistic that that, yet it was still highly successful.

Mike Diana is going for shock value, so his crude renderings just add to that.

My most productive thread of the last week involves a story no one has read and everybody hates.

Lesson #1... Bad publicity is still publicity.
Did you see the Howard Stern Movie "Private Parts"?
Researcher: The average radio listener listens for eighteen minutes. The average Howard Stern fan listens for - are you ready for this? - an hour and twenty minutes. Pig Vomit: How can that be? Researcher: Answer most commonly given? "I want to see what he'll say next." Pig Vomit: Okay, fine. But what about the people who hate Stern? Researcher: Good point. The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day. Pig Vomit: But... if they hate him, why do they listen? Researcher: Most common answer? "I want to see what he'll say next."
Lesson over.
I don't hate this comic. I'm indifferent to it. I don't want to read it because the subject matter doesn't interest me and the art would be a distraction.
The problem with running a messageboard is that the odd subjects will always start to overpower the common ones.

I have read all 3 volumes and have I have read the first two volumes of Armageddonquest and about half of volume 3. I must say that the art does get better especially in the second half of volume 2 and is pretty cool in volume 3.
The story does ask an interesting question: what if the Anti-Christ doesn't want to be the Anti-Christ?
The most disturbing aspect of the book to me is a lot of the sex involves incest, rape, and sex with a young boy and older women.

Its sad that you guys are so dismissive of this great story without even attempting to read it. As a whole, this book is far beyond 90% of the comics that have come out in the last 20 years. the art, while crude compared to the slick artists at the big 2 will actually do more to pull you into the narrative than pretty much anything else on the market.
Mr. Roach approaches the concept of the Anti-christ from a standpoint of modern thinking mixed with much of the unspoken history of Christianity and paganism. If you have any interest in religion, You will be enthralled by what is within the covers of these 3 volumes.
The pages that gowaltrip showed are from different points in the story. Some like the "lust" scene are from the final chapter and the others a mix of different points within the story. I would actually go out and buy this book again if I could find a color version of it. That really takes the story to another level.
Also in the back of the book there is a timeline of existance based on biblical prophecy and Roach's own speculation.
Also notice that his name is composed of 18 letters. Or to put it more directly, 6+6+6 whooooooooooooo
Bottom line. This is a book worth reading.
