One of my favorite bands is Stabbing Westward. Gamers seem to be familiar with them. Here are some pretty obscure collectibles being auctioned by the lead singer himself... search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZinfraredbwcfs

Save Yourself is a kick ass song! I never think about that song and I usually skip past it. They have so many other songs I like better, that "Save yourself" seems like a pop throwaway. Some of my favorites... Drugstore (has a cool bell sound -- cross between a cow bell and church bells) Can't Happen Here Shame What do I have to Do? (a big hit) Waking up Beside You (both mixes despite being very different) Angel High Sleep cfs

I seen these guys 3 times live. They are really good. I think they broke up though after their fourth cd came out.

I seen these guys 3 times live. They are really good. I think they broke up though after their fourth cd came out. Yes, they did break up. One of the members went on to host a radio show in New York I believe. The lead singer Chris Hall went on to found a band in California called "The Dreaming". www.myspace.com/thedreaming The line-up has changed. Originally they sounded more like Stabbing Westward. Slowly they changed their sound and they sound a little more pop. They had a song on the Elektra soundtrack. They have a lot of self-published EP's out. They have an album due out soon if it's not out already. They do a great cover of Real Life's "Send Me An Angel" cfs

As much as I liked them I thought the last CD was terrible. It seemed totally different from what they had been doing in the past.

I really liked the last album. Stabbing Westward started out if I'm not mistaken as two guys. They didn't really have a designated lead guitar player. I think they had to build a band around what Walter & Chris were doing. I'm pretty sure they had a different guitar player contributing on all their albums. That's one reason the last album sounds so different.
They were also getting criticized as being a NIN rip off band, but I don't see it other than the style of music being in the same vein.
It looks like the last album was an attempt to shed the NIN comparisons as well as go for a more mainstream sound.
I like it. I felt it was a good departure from the other three. The first album expressed bitter anger. The second album was "Hey, I'm still angry, but I'm not sure how to deal with it". The third album is "My heads clear, but I'm still really pissed.". I look at the last album as a positive step towards healing and letting go of the anger.
"High" is as good to me as anything they've ever done. "Wasted" is a reflective song realizing that you've put too much of your life into things that don't matter. "So Far Away" is just an awareness that you love someone who will not return the emotions. "Angel" is one of my favorite songs they've ever done, I'm just not wild with how it starts.
I love the acoustic version of "Television" better than the album version. It's only available on an Australian single. The have an amusing cover of "On Top Of the World" on that single. I believe that's an old Carpenters song.
I pretty much like everything they've done. Their remixes are good enough to stand alone as a different song. The first album might be a little too angry at times, but musically I like it all.
I've seen them 3 times myself. On the last tour Chris opened the door to the club and let us stand in the doorway and watch the sound check because it was starting to rain where the line was forming. I thought that was cool.
I'm not shocked that you disliked the last album, but I think you should give it another chance. Maybe mellowing out with age is why I like it.
