Music is a major part of my life. I grew up on it. It helped me get through some rough times. I played bass guitar decently well and guitar poorly but enough to enjoy what I did a few times. Along the way, I picked up influences and players to admire. If it came down to it where if all I could have is one artist to listen to for the rest of my life, it would have to be Jimi Hendrix. I must admit, I dont listen to it half as much as I did years ago, but anytime I do hear Hendrix I am still mesmerized at the sheer incredible sounds that flowed from this man's guitar with ease. If I had music to hear like this today, I would listen to it. The guitar sings as much if not more than the vocalist. It is the main thing to listen to and yet everything else is adding its special touch to it. This here is an incomplete but still stunning capture of Machine Gun from The Band of Gypsies Live Album recorded December 31st 1969 at their 1st gig. 9 months later Jimi would be dead and I often wonder where he would have gone onto if he continued to live? Such a shame to die at 27 with all that talent. True, the live performances are raw, but dont forget, its 1969. I think the guitarist was just slightly ahead of its time. Anyway, you can tell me you were never impressed with him all you want and that's fine. Doesnt matter to me. I'm going to remain a huge fan of this guy until the day I die. Long live the music of Jimi Hendrix.

Nothing against Hendrix. I respect his talent. I'm just nor real wild about 60's music in general. I don't like the recording technology back then. I don't like the effects they used. Some bands poked through and overcame the things I don't like. I appreciate some of the Who's stuff a lot. By mid to late 70's that is when I start liking music. The only zeppelin album I ever cared to own was the last one with "All of My Love". By the time you get to late 70's, that's when I like the recording technology and styles of music. Foreigner, Journey, Styz, Cheap Trick, AC/DC, Pat Benatar... power pop and some hard rock. It's just cleaner less dirty sounding music.
If it's too stoner or too raunchy (Aerosmith) then I don't care for it as much.

CFS,man,I'm surprised you don't like '70's Aerosmith? Nobody's Fault,Kings & Queens,Round & Round...killer stuff!! I don't know what the hell happened to 'em though.I can't stand to hear anything from them past 1982.People say they got off the drugs, which is probably the reason, but bringing in outside writers killed that band. I get a kick hearing a band re-record a modern version of one of their older songs.Motley Crue's 1997 version of Shout at the Devil kicks ass, there are others I can't think of at the moment but I'd love to hear alot of the '70's & '80's bands do a modern update on their own stuff. I like Zeppelin, but I don't think there are 10 songs they did that don't get played on the radio. It's just OVERKILL.It's like classic rock stations...I hate it also...they are still playing the same 30 songs they played to death 30 years ago.I took a 6 hour road trip last year, and on the road classic rock is the best you can get...I heard "Don't Fear the Reaper" 3 times in 4 hours on 3 different stations. It's like the listening public are zombies. The same goes for modern radio...they are going to be playing this same stuff..Linkin Park,Nickleback,Foo Fighters...to death years from now. When I'm on the computer,I have gotten into listening to on-line streaming stations.....WWW.HARDRADIO.COM ... is really good one....here's a list of some of what they are currently playing...Airbourne, Megadeth, Helloween, Slayer, Ozzy Osbourne, Warbringer, Meldrum, Icarus Witch, The Cult, Supagroup, Helix........it's a cool mix,and I always hear stuff by bands that I've never heard that sounds really good...the song "I.M.E." by Helloween is killer! I was never into Armored Saint until I heard them on that station. They've been around since the early '90's and I never heard their music. They have some really good songs!...anyway check it out one day..just hit the stream and do whatever else you're doing...it's great background music!

I don't hate Aerosmith music, I just don't get excited when I hear it. I don't like Stephen Tyler's voice. I'd rather hear Mike Tramp from White Lion, Jack Russell from Great White, Robin Zander from Cheap Trick.... anybody that has the ability to be melodic if they want too and the vocal depth to do toss out deep vocals if necessary. Also Aerosmith has has a raunchy guitar sound in theuir older music. Any dislike I have for Aerosmith was set in stone when my roommate played it 24 hours a day. Whenever I hear song off the Pump album I cringe a little because I heard it over and over and over. I like Dream on, but I don't need to ever hear it again. I've heard it way too much. I think the band members from Helloween were always going to the same rock shows i went to and hanging out at the same rock clubs. I don't really know much about them, but I had dozens of opportunities to meet them. Again, not wild about Ozzy's voice. Don't care for a lot of the heavy Metal baneds you mention. I was a big fan of WASP. their first album & EP blew me away. I had 5 copies of "Animal (F$$# like a beast)" all on different color vinyl... Red, Gold, clear etc. I was a big Motorhead fan. Was ecstatic to see motorhead live. Had a guy offer to buy the Motorhead shirt off my back once and of course I refused. That's happened to me several times. I had a promo T-shirt for the movie "Seven" that I was wearing at a Marilyn Manson concert and a girl wanted to buy it off my back. My friend liked Grim Reaper a lot. I used to laugh at one band with a song about being buried alive, i had a nice collection of Kerrang magazine. I eventually gave it away. Saxon had a few really good songs. I've got a Mama's Boy EP with the song "Silence is out of fashion" that i won't part with. Twister sister had some character until they sold out and became pop stars. Ultimately though i was more into non hits from mainstream bands. I can't think of one Cars song that I don't like. I like April Wine a lot. I'll still start singing "If You See Kay" at work and people will stare at me for doing so. been typing too long... gotta work.. cfs

It's cool to go back and look through them and see all that stuff that I was really into back then.It turned me onto Saxon,Motorhead,UFO,and other bands I never would've heard of. And that radio HARDRADIO.COM has been playing stuff off of new releases from bands I never thought were still together, like Saxon,Krokus,Great White, all of which are still putting new stuff out. Commercial radio sure as hell ain't gonna play any of that stuff.

You would probably like this site. Angelo the publisher of Catfish comics sent me to it... www.wolfgangsvault.com/His taste is for older rock. He plays guitar. You would probably like this site. www.melodicrock.com/I emailed Bobby Barth from Axe through this site and asked him why he's not singing anymore. Their "Offering" album and their "Nemesis" album I really liked. Unfortunately their rhythm guitarist died and the sound has never quite been the same. Bobby Barth just plays guitar now. I liked his voice better. cfs

This is like 1982. I dont remember what they wore, but I remember Krokus kicked ass. Actually, it was a pretty good show top to bottom.

I couldn't find it.Or is it a rock news site? Roadrunner Records also puts out a killer Hard Rock/Metal/Hardcore news site at WWW.BLABBERMOUTH.COM

Well, www.melodicrock.com/ used to be a distribution site for every 70's & 80's band that still had a melody and was putting out albums. Some band you thought were dead long ago are still releasing albums. cfs
