I was speaking of John Romita Sr in this thread and not JR JR. I should have clarified that. After Ditko left in the 60's, it was Romita Sr who took over and did a bang up job.
I have never cared for Bagley. He comes really close to drawing really well. Im not going to deny he is a talented artist and competent and knows how to draw and there are plenty of artists a lot worse out there. It's just something about the Bagley style I never cared for. I think Spidey always looked too skinny for one. I do agree his original run after he took over for Erik Larsen was his best stuff. I think if he would have stayed 20 -30 issues and left I would have been okay. But after he was sorta like THE Spiderman artist after Ultimate Spiderman, I think that is where I really got to loathing him.
I actually dug Larsen's art on Spiderman. I remember when he took over after McFarlane I think everyone including me was a bit bummed. I originally thought Larsen was an inferior McFarlane wannabee. But Larsen was so dynamic, it didn't take long before I was digging his style. And now I dig what he did even more than McFarlane.
No doubt about it, Amazing Spiderman has had many memorable eras.
