Well I have been working on a new setup. All this new tech is really expensive though. So it's going to take me a little while to get anywhere. I think I am off to a decent start though. I have a 61" Samsung DLP TV. I love it. But since it's a DLP it's not as small as a LCD. But for the price I couldn't beat it. The picture is sharp with a HD feed. It's a 1080P tv by the way. I wish cable companies would come out with a cable box with a HDMI video out instead of component wires. I heard that satellite companies already have HDMI on their boxes. I don't know if that's true but I consider them lucky if it is. It also pisses me off that cable only has a few HD channels. What gives? Satellite has a ton more. The apt. I have in Richmond is facing north so I can't get one. I had to settle for cable. Oh well.
But on the bright side I do have to go along with my TV a Playstation 3. That's right folks I went out and bought one. This is one of the most awesome machines I have ever owned. If you have an HDTV you will and should own one. Never in my life did I imagine games that looked liked this. Ninja Gaiden Sigma is just a beauty to look at and it's also a really fun game. I neve rplayed games online before until I got Resistance Fall Of Man. It was cool being able to talk to people all around the world all playing the same game with you. And when I say talk I mean talk. I hooked a bluetooth headset up with it. It was neat. And not only does it play some great games but it's also a Blu-Ray player! One of the cheapest actually and by from what I am hearing one of the best. DON't GET HD-DVD! GO BLU! I now have 10 Blu-Ray movies. I thought Casino Royale was awesome on it. Also a lot of animated movies look great as well. With the latest update to the PS3 it should be able to upscale standard DVDs.
I am looking to get a nice sound system for it all by next year. I'm just not sure what to get yet. All I do know is that playing games on a 61" screen is AWESOME!

I don't know if that's true but I consider them lucky if it is. HDMI is available on SOME cable boxes, just not available to all parts of the country YET. The original Digital outputs on Cable boxes were DVI. If your box has a DVI output and your TV has an HDMI input, you can buy an DVI to HDMI wire which has the EXACT same picture abilities as HDMI...it just does not have audio. So you will have to use the red and white audio cables if you use this setup. Also 1080p can only be accomplished through the HDMI input. Component video only supports up to 1080i or 720p (which are both true HDTV) but 1080p is beyond HDTV. I am extremely jealous of your setup az.... I work around electronics and I still have a regular tube tv that can only support regular 480i. I need to get with the times. An HDTV is on my wishlist. But, I have a few things still ahead of it... Like a garage...

I heard about this guy who could have had a garage but decided to make it a room for his comics. The cable box we have up in my apt has component wires. They suck. I want to use an HDMI cable. Why should I have to settle for less than 1080P when there is no need? I was looking at some component wires while I was at a store today. I want different ones than what the cable company provided me with. Also I want shorter ones as well. I need to clean up the look some. i love playing with technology. It's fun. Perhaps that is why I am always doing something new to my computer. I really want to build a new one again from scratch. I just built this one but I just have an itch to do another one. It's crazy fun!

Oh and I'm going to see if there just happens to be a DVI connector on it. Maybe I will luck out. I did see a cable that went from DVI to HDMI while I was at the store to. Which also brings me to..
My video card on my computer has 2 DVI ports. Can I use one of those cables to hook it up to my tv?

My video card on my computer has 2 DVI ports. Can I use one of those cables to hook it up to my tv? Az...its been tried a billion times, trust me....but usually the answer is no. I dont know how it is for Samsung, but Im sure its pretty standard on most all tvs with HDMI inputs. In order for HDMI to work, the tv needs to see within the signal coming to it, something call HDCP (Hi Bandwith Digital Content Protect). A fancy acronym meaning it has to have Copy Protection encoding built into the signal. If the TV doesnt see it, the input doesnt turn on. I cannot tell you how many times I had customers call and say they had done the same thing and it wasnt working. But once in a blue moon, one would call and he would say it is working and I would go....Wow!!! Generally a computer is just not going to output HDCP. Cable, Satellite and DVDs will...but not computers.

I'm sure it won't be long then before computers can do it. They are making them now with Blu-ray players built in.
I do have a spot on the back of my tv for a pc to plug in. Though not a hdmi but a regular pc monitor plug.

That will look just like your computer monitor except it will be on your DLP!!! It will look nice as hell. Trust me. PC connect on a tv is a GREAT connection!

Awesome. When I look at videos off of my computer will they look good as well? I hope so for this is the main reason why I want to hook it up. I am thinking of making a media center pc next time. One that will sit nice on my entertainment center. I already have an idea for it. Anyone want to give to my charity so I can get the money together for it?

It will look just like it looks on your pc, but now it is 61" and its being shown on an HDTV DLP! Trust me, PC connections are not cheap connections. My company sells LCD, DLP and Plasma TVs. Not all tvs have a PC input. In fact, we have more that do NOT than do. Only the HIGHER END models have the PC input. Its nothing to sneeze at. Computers hooked up to a tv like this look great! Ive seen it! Its like having a 61 inch computer monitor!
Now, its not going to compare to Blu-Ray (nothing does) I would imagine, but its going to look pretty dang good. Just like if you have your monitor setup for 1024 x 768 on your computer at home. That is what is going to be heading to your DLP! 1024 x 768 is HDTV quality.
Being that you have a 1080p set, you may even be able to set the screen resolution higher (might need to check the manual for that)...but 1024 x 768 should be a setting it wants with no problem.

Yeah I am going to have to set it up higher. I have the resolution size written down somewhere. I am going to give it a shot this weekend
