Even the 'average' stuff they produced seems to have really high standards.
I have to agree with this. I've never really picked up a Crossgen book yet and thought to myself "This looks like crap!". Some of it may not be my style, but when you get a group of these comics together and start seeing the collective work here, its pretty sharp and impressive!
I think they could have fit a super-themed world into the Sigilverse without major problem, and this was alluded to in Negation War I believe. Given that one world had three books set on it (Brath, the Path and Way of the Rat are all set on the same world I undertsand: I have yet to tackle these as I am reading whole runs where possible), something similar with superheroes could have worked well within the mythology.
I have yet to read any because I don't have any real long runs yet. And I want to because I think they will be well worth reading. Somehow I think not having Superheroes ultimately hurt them because lets face it, comics are owned by Superheroes and it generates the most excitement. But you also have to wonder if Crossgen did do it, would it ruin what they were doing? Would it bring them down to the rest of the comics out there or could they be a step above like they were with their fantasy stuff? Its hard to say.
I would like to search out a checklist on them if possible. I'm still wondering if they have 1 comic that is like their grail and would be the sleeper to get valuable years from now? I have to say I haven't personally seen a new comic company that did that well since this company's demise. It could have been another Valiant if handled better.
