Hey, the board may be a bit hard to look at for a day or 2, but Im upgrading the overall look to it with a prefabricated skin design to the board.
It took me a bit to figure it out, but I think I am getting it. Its just a bit time consuming. This is like 1/3rd of the way done as I write this.
Thanks to Underdog for showing me this and helping me understand how to do it. I really think I got it now. But the uploading to photobucket and then the copying and pasting the URLs to the HTML header and footers is a pain. But I hope it will be well worth it.

I hope this newby can see it through! ;D
Just please excuse the mess for the time being and post as it is now.
I promised to have it finished within a few days.

Well, I stayed up to 1:30 last night putting all these URL files into HTML locations and it didnt come out right. I think the file I downloaded was miss a Main Header file. It has a Global Header and Footer and a Main Footer, but no Main Header. And a lot of the pictures I uploaded to photobucket were never used. So, it came out wrong. Anyway, I found another file I like better. Im going to try and work on that one, but I have to work. So the board is going to look like this for the time being. Bear with me....

Its cool bro take your time i'm sure you'll do fine, after you get the hang of it, it will be easy ;D, most template and skins don't really have code for the Main Headers due to it used mainly for welcome table. So don't worry to much about it if they do have codes for main headers then you can use them. If you have any trouble i'll be around  . |

I dont think that last skin was complete. And the color code I tried for this skin (I think it was called something like Oblivion. I tried doing the color scheme for it because that was quick and easy to do and I could do that while I was getting ready for work this morning. I copied and pasted all of them over and it told me there was at least one that did not follow the Hex code format. I believe I did the last one completely right. The instructions said to upload the .gifs to photobucket and then copy them to the appropriate fields into the HTML code. I did every instance I could find and there was major changes to the way the board looked, but it wasnt no where near complete and there was a ton of .gifs I never used and I know they needed to be. That is why I thought maybe the Main Header missing was the reason (because I had so many more left that I never used). Either I didnt read the HTML portion right or something was missing. Certainly since this is my 1st time, Im sure it could be me. But once I got the jist of what it wanted me to do, I read each HTML page at least twice and I could find no more entries. I dunno  |

Oh ok yeah i know what happened there, the other images they would of been the Reply bottons and New Thread botton and the Smileys they will go : click on admin panle and then click on Skin/Forum Color and at the end youe will see this Customize Images click on it and you will see where all of the other images go.

I must be doing something very wrong and I cannot figure out what it is. And this stuff is kind of time consuming. Its not that difficult, but some parts are just not working for me. I have uploaded all the gif images to photobucket....which is kind of cumbersome in itself. Then I have copied and pasted the URLs to the HTML codes of the global and main header and footers. Now, when I put each one in and saved it, it made some...slight...changes to the board. But I was expecting more major changes. Especially when I did the global footer which had a LOT of URLs to place in. When I copied and pasted that one in, It didnt look like it did a thing to the board which REALLY shocked me. Finally, I am getting to the graphics section and I guess I am confused by this one. I see where you put in things like Home, Search, etc. So I copied the appropriate URL there and save it, I did both Home and Search at the top of the page and it just comes out as plain text with brackets, such as [Home] and [Search]....please see the top of my main page. Anyway, something is not adding up and I have to do the usual "honey-do" stuff that married men have to do on weekends. So, Ive ran out of time to keep messing with it for today. The color scheme I like, but Im just not seeing the graphics go onto the page. Mainly it is just spacing things and not adding graphics. I know one thing. I appreciate the work that goes into people making skins and people designing their own boards a lot more. If I could get to the point where it pays off for me, I would love the accomplishment. I have learned a lot I didnt know already. But something is still not adding up.  |

Well, I think I finally figured out what I was doing wrong and I was able to get the board this far. I hope it shows the difference. I still and miffed on how to do a few things (like how to incorporate the logo in this) and a few other things. There is still areas I need to work on and finish. But I think the board looks a lot better already and I hope you do to. Thanks again to Underdog for giving me the idea and tips on making this work. That challenged my mind a great deal, because I didnt know what I was doing wrong for the longest time, but once I had a break through, it started coming together!!! Hopefully this isnt the last of it.

I think you may of missed some codes, there should be an "forum re-size code" if you wish and you give me admin powers i can look at the code you have installed and i can fix what needs to be fixed, only if you want to i not want to take your fun away . |

The board creation is nearly complete. I couldnt figure out a few things on my own, so I gave Underdog some limited access to my setup and had him look at my setup. He was able to fix some things that were still messed up. I would like to thank him for getting the site "skin" near completion.  Hopefully we can add a Forum name box that follows the style of this board soon. It was pointed out to me that the purple coloring wasnt "ideal". It probably wouldnt be my 1st choice in colors either but its not something I can go in and easily change because it is made up of precolored gif files. If I could change it I would. Perhap we will outgrow this one and I will change the skin to something else. Now that I done it once, I think I can get pretty far on it should I ever need to do it again. My main concern now is hopefully getting some posts going. Please, if a thought hits you while visiting, share it. Even if you dont think it is that strong. Right now the chatter means a lot to me. Id like to thank everyone who is here so far. I hope over time the board gets better. I certainly appreciate what goes into not only making one of these boards, but struggling to find an audience who can make the difference in your board. Anytime you see a successful running board, you cannot appreciate how much those people did things to get their boards running smoothly. There is a lot more to it than I knew. |
