Man you guys are harsh on the nerds.
Here is my two cents.
When I go to the comic shop, I enjoy it when others I know are there because it opens up an opportunity to speak with other people with the same interests as I have and can articulate upon the various happenings in comics.
Now sometimes the store is filled with Card (MAGIC) players. I have no use for them. Mainly because the card games are not my thing.
When I go to conventions I am usually on a mission so I focus on that. When I get someone who tries to look in the box I am looking in I literally pick up the items they set down and move them somewhere else. When they look at me like I am crazy I have quite plainly said. Oh, my bad. I just thought you were some rude, Ignorant fuck who couldn't see me looking in this box. So I made sure you could see me.
Now go away.
Most nerds fear conflict so they usually drag their fat asses somewhere else.
I was in my local comic shop ne day when this guy comes in who was 280lbs at the least. HE was wearing black jeans, a sweatshirt and one of those Flannel insulated jackets.
It was about 85* outside at the time.
His odor was so potent that my eyelids literally rolled back on themselves.
Everyone in the store turned and looked at the guy.
I walked out to my truck grabbed my backpack and pulled out a bottle of AXE Body spray.
went back in and was like -look dude. I am not trying to be rude here, but if you are going to dress like that in this heat, well you need this.
Everyone clapped.
The guy was embarrassed sure. But he was also educated when he left.
People in Costumes.
When I go to shows I don't know whether to laugh or scream at some of the people I see in costume. Many of the costumes are just so poorly conceived that I am shocked they wore it in public. Then there are others that I think are pure genius.
But when It comes to girls in costume, If they are decent looking and you, a guy, complain about it, well, your just gay.
Girls should be allowed to dress up in comic costumes whenever they want.
Hell it should be mandatory until they are 25 LOL!
I have seen some amazingly hot women dressed in costumes at shows. Of course I have also seen some really bad looking women in costumes also.
But I look away quickly. I swear.
The thing is though people who are really into their genre of choice look at shows as the way to let their geek flag fly. No one is going to be judgmental of them at shows, because everyone is their because they love (to varying degrees) everything about comics.
Main thing is you have to be careful when passing judgement on these people. Who knows how they view you.
