Pretty good mix of old school songs there....
I never cared too much for PM Dawn, but they sounded alright. Listening to it tonight, they sounded better than I remembered.
The Guns N Roses song is one of my least favorite hits they had. It's just too slow, melodic and drawn out for me. It sounds like they wanted to be taken more seriously instead of just being the rock powerhouse they were. It's a good song, it's just something I don't want to hear much.
I remember thinking Parent's just don't Understand was cool and liking it a lot when it came out, but listening to it tonight made me think it sounded like shit. I can't believe it was that much worse than I remembered. This kind of home drum kit background type of rap kinda sounds irritating now.
The MC Hammer Can't Touch This is still pretty awesome. I watched it tonight and was mesmerized by the music and dancing. I was always a fan of MC Hammer. I remember I was selling his music at a black music store in the mid 90s when his popularity was waning and I liked a song he had called "Bust em in the head". I actually like a lot of his music and dancing. He was quite a character.
Duran Duran was a band I thought was a bunch of pretty boys growing up and for that reason, in the early 80s I didn't care for them much, but over the years they kept growing on me and now I think they are awesome. I really like this song. I also like Ordinary World which I have on my playlist and play on bass along to whenever I play my bass along with music. It's a good song to get lost in. I remember sleeping in my bedroom one night with the tv on loud in the living room and waking up to them playing this song on tv in concert and the tv was so loud I could hear the song clearly and it sounded so damn pretty waking up to it, it felt like I was waking up into a dream. I just laid there in my bed listening to it and thinking "Damn, that sounds really good".
The Sir Mix A Lot song Im not really familiar with and although it doesn't sound too bad, it doesn't do much for me either. I'm kinda glad I'm not familiar with it.
All in all, a good mix of videos. Thanks!

There are a few more songs I can add to this list. When I was 12 I was living over seas. I got introduced to a lot of different music. Some of which I don't listen to anymore.
Here is the song that got me hooked back onto rock type music. Before this rap was what is was all about. From this moment everything in music changed for me. I know it's weird but it's true.
I was in gym class one day and we had bowling that day. we all went to the bowling alley and one of the guys went to the jukebox and played this. I couldn't wait to hear it again. I asked everybody who it was. From that point on I listened to what was considered grunge. I loved it. There weren't too many people listening to it where I lived. I went to see the movie Singles and that opened it up even more for me. Alice in Chains became one of my favorite bands from that.
Singles trailer
here is the soundtrack listing:
1. "Would?" – Alice in Chains 2. "Breath" – Pearl Jam 3. "Seasons" – Chris Cornell 4. "Dyslexic Heart" – Paul Westerberg 5. "The Battle of Evermore" – The Lovemongers (Heart) 6. "Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns" – Mother Love Bone 7. "Birth Ritual" – Soundgarden 8. "State of Love and Trust" – Pearl Jam 9. "Overblown" – Mudhoney 10. "Waiting for Somebody" – Paul Westerberg 11. "May This Be Love" – Jimi Hendrix 12. "Nearly Lost You" – Screaming Trees 13. "Drown" – The Smashing Pumpkins

Here are some of the songs that stick out from when I was growing up. That was a really bad time for music. When MTV start doing "Yo MTV Raps" due to pressure from the black community, it ran off most of the white audience. I went to MTV to listen to certain styles of music, not 'any' style of music. Once the Rap music started getting all the airplay, it pushed rock aside and rock didn't regain a stronghold until Grunge came along and I couldn't stand grunge. Nirvanna was at least inspired by Cheap Trick a little, so they had a slightly cleaner sound. I don't mind them. I thought (and still think) MC Hammer was talentless from the first time I saw his video. I wasn't too interested in music again until everyone started copying the Ramones style. Now all I hear on the radio is oldies I've heard a million times and it's not even the oldies I want to hear occasionally. I hear better oldies when I go buy a hamburger from 5 Guys. df1

I'll agree what you said about MTV and Yo MTV Raps. MTV seemed to have went downhill fast. For about 6-8 years, they was cool and then towards the end of the 80s, they just started being mostly Rap and Soul and then they went to completely worthless shows and now it's a damn shame to call them Music TV. I can still remember the days when it was all day videos. Ah, those were the days.
I may have been a little resistant to Grunge, but Heavy Metal was due to get it's ass whooped. It had gotten to the point where it was too much glam, posing and pretty players. The rock was taking a back seat. Once it got going, I actually enjoyed Grunge. But it was probably good that it only really survived a good 4-5 years. By the mid 90s I was into for the 1st time, Alternative Rock and really for about 2-3 years, there was some cool music coming out of that. Rock had become so hum-drum and repetitive, that it was something different and yet still rocking. And yet, I think the late 90's rocked very well too. When I look back, I think the 90s was a good decade for music.
After getting off to a decent start, I totally hate this past decade. Everything sounds like Nickleback or watered down versions of Rock. I can hardly take the radio anymore. My local rock station is playing more classic rock than new rock, yet its the same 50 songs you hear every day. The classic rock station is practically easy listening these days. Im hearing like Crosby, Stills and Nash and the Moody Blues on stations like that. There is a big difference between Classic Rock and just plain Oldies. I'm actually getting better rocking from the Oldies Stations than the classic Rock stations from time to time. It's sad.
I'm hoping the 10's will be a better decade for music. I've been deeply into music all my life. For me, this last decade was the worst ever. I'm starting to get old. I need a good decade of music to deal with that.

That was a really bad time for music df1 I think now is a really bad time for music. I can't find much of the new stuff that I can listen too. All the alternative music is terrible. I don't want to listen to this days rap. There aren't that many good metal bands. I don't get into all this pop stuff either. I usually end up listening to the classic hits station now. A station I used to not listen to at all.

I hear better oldies when I go buy a hamburger from 5 Guys. df1 I love 5 Guys! When I first ate there, I wasn't too impressed. Now I eat there a lot because it doesn't ever upset my stomach. The fresh ingredients make a difference. dp
