I sorta remember some hype about the comic when it was hitting the stands, but I never really got to check it out. So I have to claim ignorance on the story. The movie release seems to be generating a little bit of a buzz. Don't know if it will be short lived or will this one go down as a good representation of a comic book movie? One thing I will say, it's always good to see comics in movies just for awareness value alone. I think people get used to the normal DC/Marvel output and lose track that comics offer so much more. This one at least seems a little bit attention getting over the normal fare. So I ask my comic loving brethren, does Kick-Ass the Movie do comics proud? Or is it something that is going to let us down?

Going to see it today. I enjoyed the book a lot, but I also have a sick sense of humor. I have heard nothing but praise for this flick by everyone except for Roger Ebert who called it morally reprehensible. shit, that guarantees my ticket purchase right there.
The easiest description that can be given to this movie, is what would a Superhero flick filmed by Quinten Tarentino be like? Well, this is about as close as you could get to that.

Let us know what you think! I'm a bit curious about this movie. I'll probably rent it when it makes its way to Netflix. Have you seen Clash of the Titans yet? If you have, please give your review over in that thread. I heard it was a good popcorn movie. Leave your brain at the door and just enjoy the visuals. Not sure if that is enough for me, but damn, I like those visuals I see in the trailors!

I went and saw this film yesterday and have to say that I was very impressed. I am a fan of the comic, and the film stayed very close to the source material. Meaning it was irreverant, Gory, Vulger, Far fatched all while staying in reality, and brutally funny. All of the characters are played very well. Dave (KICK ASS) is a perfect dork who with the help of his friends even agrees to pretend he is gay. Just so he can get close to the girl of his dreams. A guy stupid enough to not learn from his first major eye opening experience as a Superhero.
RED MIST- Vary well played by Mintz-Plasse. There is no McLovin here. He is a devious bastard.
BIG DADDY and HIT GIRL- First off, this is the best Nic Cage role in years. He is awesome in this film. Chloe' Morentz is great as Hit Girl also. Seriously, this is her movie more than any other character. she plays it to the hilt and you just believe it. The whole controversy about her character while understandable, is a bit over done. In the 70's, Tatum Oneal used worse language in the Bad News Bears films. In fact all of those kids made sailors blush.
these two characters are probably closest to what Batman and Robin would be like if they actually existed in the real world.
D'Amico- the Mob boss. Mark Strong is becoming my favorite villain actor today. He just chews his way through the scenery and never goes over the top.
Is this a chick flick? No. But feel free to take your signifigant other because there are enough laughs to pull both of you into it.
Easily one of the best films released this year and honestly its probably one of the very best superhero films ever done.

Sounds promising!
Can't wait until it hits Netflix. I'll probably have seen it by the end of the year. I look forward to it.

While I hadn't heard of the comic until the movie.. I must say.. I loved the Hell out of this film! I was a little shocked by the content, but I loved it! I felt like geeking out for several days after wards. Cage did great in this film! It was a bit saddening however on what happens to his character. Hit Girl, she was just great through the whole thing! I would not recommend letting little kids see this!

Me and my wife watched this tonight as I finally rented it from Netflix (I love Netflix) and we both LOVED the movie! It was very entertaining.
Yeah, it's a bit far fetched, but it comes off as believable and very well likable. I pretty much loved every character. My wife loved Hit-Girl (so did I). I have to admit, I knew the movie was kinda a fun poke at comics, but I NEVER expected it to be so violently gorey as it was. I was at times thinking to myself "Oh my Gawd" and at the same time thinking "This is cool as shit". Since I never read the comic, I never knew really what to expect except a normal kid wants to become a hero. That's about all I knew going in.
It was a shock how violent it was. Much more than the serious comic movies. But all in all, I think it was a pretty cool flick and would recommend it unless you're looking for something serious. This was just fun.
