Like him or not... he's definitely one of the smartest guys in the biz. How many Youngblood #1's are there right now? I'm not talking about the FIRST YB#1... but the fact that he can launch a new YB series every few years and score himself a pretty high sales number on a new #1.
I was discussing this with a fella at Atomic Comics about a year ago... my POV was that he was just cashing in on whatever's left of his name-recognition. The fella agreed with me and then pointed out what a good sales tactic it was... totally shut me up.

I hate to admit this. After looking at so much modernized crap for so long and feeling like it is so lifeless and boring, I've come to view Liefeld with a bit of potential. Granted, I still see all those alarmingly bad flaws I always seen for the past 2 decades. I think he's about the closest to have an old school wow factor built into him. He has a built in wreck like quality about him that almost feels like he's sitting in the back going "Haw! Haw! Made you look!" Sometimes I think if he could stop drawing poster shots like the one below and just draw some real action shots without a hint of that stylistic Image looking crap he's known for, I could almost pick a bit of a Kirby vibe off of him. Throw in some Kirby Crackle, dynamic poses and some real inking and I think he has it in him to do some real cool shit! I don't know why, I just have that feeling when I look at his work. It makes me sad to feel that way. Like I'm such a dumbass to even entertain those kind of thoughts. But occasionally I look at his work and think the man has just a bit of potential. I just keep waiting for him to grow the fuck up and do it!
