I'm sure you guys noticed a reduction in posts from me this week and I'm sure it hurt activity here this week. I have to apologize and say I'm going through an adjustment period that is flat out wiping me out. You guys know I just got a new job back in January (thankfully!). Well, for 6 weeks of training, it was cake, basically because...well, it was training and all I had to do was sit back and watch. Well this past week was the 1st week of actual working. And boy did it lay an asskicking on me! Well, this past week also marked the last week of a training schedule. Starting next week, I begin my new schedule...Get this... I'll be working Mon-Thur 11am - 10pm (10:30 on Mondays). Basically 4 10 hr days with 3 day weekends off! I have a 1 hr lunch, so that means I'll be there 11 hrs. And I have an hr drive each way. So it means my total workday will be 13 hrs each day. This begins this coming up Monday. I'm sure eventually I will get used to it and eventually these long days will just feel like a regular day. But it's going to take some adjusting for sure. I've been told from those that do it, that I'll probably be okay on Monday and maybe Tuesday, but by Wednesday I'll be dragging ass. Let's not forget I'm also attending school at the same time and I'm loaded with homework. The benefit is I'll have 3 day weekends every weekend. And that's the prize I have to keep my eye on. It's the reason I took the schedule in the 1st place. Well that and it would be one less day of gas and wear and tear on my car. Plus, I've never had a 4 day work week and I want to experience that. I always felt 5 day weeks felt like slavery. So all this being said, if you see me on the site, it'll probably be really late at night and who knows what condition I'll be in to post. It's just going to be an adjustment and I'll improve as we go I'm sure. So as always, I'll appreciate whatever participation you guys give even more than usual. Comic Crack is everybody's place to post about anything they want, especially comics related but not strictly comics. Any subject is fair game around here. So please, I know everybody has their own schedule and life's problems. Please know I respect that. But also know any thing you do helps keep Comic Crack moving forward. Whenever I get the time, I'll be bringing whatever I can on the table here and oh yes, I'm getting back into comics in a major way, so there should be more I can expand about in the coming future! I look forward to our discussions and appreciate your understanding as I get adjusted to my new atmosphere. -gowaltrip

I liked working 4 days when I had it years ago, but I was only 5 minutes from my job and I didn't make a good rate of pay. I'm 35 - 90 minutes from my job now... depending upon traffic. Most mornings I can get to work in 45 minutes. In the evening getting home, 75 minutes is common. I've had a bunch of 12 hour days lately. All it succeeded in doing was making me sick. The money is real nice, but my health and time off means more at my age. defiant1

Damn defient1. I feel bad for complaining about my average 45 minute drive to work. 90 minutes? The money better not just be good, it better be damn good. It's not just the money. I would have quit a long time ago, but I'm proud of what we do. We were doing work for the USPS few years after 9/11. The parent company had won an 8 Billion dollar contract. Some of that settled down to our plant. As we start getting the parts to build a simple little cabinet, I asked the engineer what it does. He says... "this is the alarm portion on the Anthrax detectors." I thought "cool... I didn't know that existed". We built the steel mill that supplies GM all their steel to make cars. Were upgrading GM's automation even now. If you live in New York or especially New Jersey, you are probably riding trains we built. Wind Power, Solar power, we have the ability to do it all. Printing presses, ferry boats, bottling, plastic injection molding... we build the cabinets that house the brains of the automation and the energy efficient motors that get the work done. Our technology runs the biggest mining trucks in the world, the biggest drag lines, and the biggest shovels. One engineer said he was working on a design for an electric car. One engineer served as an intern overseas and designed magnetic levitation trains for China. To me it's like the quote from an executive that left Pepsi to work for Apple. He said, "I can either help make sugar water or I can change the world. I take pride in the fact I know what I'm doing has helped change the world. I also like the ethnic diversity. I've met people from all over the world. Nothing is more fun to me than talking to someone who is insecure about being in the US and making them laugh. Be it a Russian, an Indian, someone from China... the ability to treat them like a person in this world and not the enemy.. it's priceless. df1

I did some nip and tucks and some minor changes to the board. Probably not even noticeable but it was time I examined some things and made a few changes. I think the ones I made were good moves. I'll be keeping my eyes open to make more, but not sure I will. Just felt like the ones I did do needed to be done.

I'd like to give a shout out to my one and only moderator "Underdog" for taking it upon himself to fix something on the board he seen as wrong. Not long ago Proboard (which I think is a great board system for a free board) decided to automatically place a "New Topics" link at the top of it's page. Being it was not formatted to the rest of the board, it stuck out like a sore thumb. I thought of it as distracting, but not too terrible and tried not paying much attention to it. Well, needless to say Underdog seen it and on his own without a word from me decided to correct it and implemented the updated "New Topics" using the template pattern that we have used for the rest of the board. He basically recreated the uniform look of the board. Underdog is truly an unsung hero to my board as he has helped me since day #1 on my board even though I was a complete stranger. He's always continued to look out for me and my board. I think sometimes he deserves a word of thanks. So here's to you Underdog!

That is not really my specialty. I don't really dabble in that kind of stuff or I would have offered assistance. I used to make custom Winamp Skins based upon my cartoon chracter with software designed to assist. df1

Underdog has been real good at seeing problems relating to the code and fixing them. I can work with it too, but he seems more natural with it. Taking the time to Photoshop a new button would have been more of a pain to me. I'm thankful for his contributions.

Your welcome G . And thank you so much. I don't know much about comic's but i do like this forum and i like to help when and where i can. The great thing about comics is you don't really have to know much about them to be involved with a discussion. At some point comics touches all of us in practically some way. Whether it be the comic's themselves, movies, tv shows or news. Comics eventually finds a way into all of our lives and I think it gives you a chance to discuss things when it happens to catch your interests. Feel free to post about comics or any other subject at ANY time. Also, I just want to say that Underdog runs his own board too. He used to be listed on my Quick Links menu as Tropolis, but he recently decided to come back to Proboards and he has relaunched as Celebrity 222. I have added a link to the Quick Links menu in case anyone wants to check it out. And it would be great if you did. The main focus is about anything Hollywood related. Mainly movies and celebrity news and gossip. If you're into movies and Celebrity stuff, it would be nice if you gave good ole Underdog (known as Legend on that board) a visit. I'm sure he would appreciate more views and discussions! Remember there is a link at the top of the page in the quick links menu but here's a direct link right here as well..... celebrity222.proboards.com/index.cgi
