Yeah, I get that part of it but I still hate to see a series end only to restart in a mere couple months with brand new numbering. It is manipulation at it's best and to me turns me off on the book. I had just started turning my attention a bit towards Daredevil with this Shadowland deal going on. I hadn't really looked at a Daredevil otherwise in a long time. To see him with a cancellation seems to indicate failure to me. He's one of Marvel's flagship characters and it looks bad to me. Naturally you know he wouldn't stay gone and right away a new series will begin. But I think overall it reeks of just canceling a book for the sake of bringing out a new #1. It lacks conviction that it's any good. Just when they had me looking again, this is going to make me lose interest.

A few at the top pay for the ones at the bottom. Any stopping point in a series is a place for people to jump off collecting. It will hurt them in the long run. The #1 will get an order boost, and then the sales will drop below where they were. df1

I think it's safe to assume Marvel knew it going to would sell very well because Kevin Smith was white hot at the time, no matter if his run started at it #0, #1/2, #1, #400, #417, or whatever the original number would have been.

Retailers will order more of a #1 than a common issue in the middle of a series. Diamond was even encouraging crap like this. It's all hype and no substance. df1

I have to admit, I'm pretty disappointed in this. I've been ordering new comics now for the past 6 or 7 months because I can finally do so again. I've been sampling various works from all publishers. Some things stick and a lot doesn't, but if something captures my interest, I'll give it a try. I got to where I was a bit intrigued to see what was up in Daredevil with this dark look and him looking like he was taking out the good guys. I am/was/will be skeptical it will be any good once it arrives, but I was willing to give it a shot. Just like anything else I order, if it sucks, so be it. But the fact remains, they made me wanna look at this just to get my own take on it. Then I read this ends the series and they'll start over again in just a couple months. It did a couple things to me as a collector. One, it let me know that this series I have preordered is nothing to be concerned with. Because the end of the series and relaunch proves that. Two, it makes me feel like no use getting interested in Daredevil because you just blew me off as a reader/collector by pulling this stunt when it seemed like you may have had a chance at picking me up for a few months. And three, I have read that Diamond does encourage this crap to produce bigger numbers. Damn, ain't no damn book that comes out new going to make it to issue #200 anymore (Im talking new launches). We live in the age of mini-series and bite sized nuggets and self contained stories. This really in essence snubbed it's nose at continuation. Yeah, yeah...I know continuation ain't cool anymore.....But it is to me. Chalk that up as another strike three. You're OUT!

This title has gone out of control in a real short period of time.... Daredevil to become Black Panther: The Man Without Fear * Posted on September 14, 2010 - 04:47 PM by Kevin Melrose Black Panther "Man Without Fear" teaserThe answer to who will be the new Man Without Fear was answered this afternoon on G4′s Attack of the Show: “Fresh Ink” host Blair Butler announced that Marvel’s Daredevil will end in November with Issue 512 — of course, we already knew that — to be replaced with Black Panther: The Man Without Fear. The title, which picks up in December with Issue 513, spins out of the “Shadowland” event, and finds Black Panther as the new guardian of Hell’s Kitchen, “living outside of his kingdom and rebuilding his life” without the aid of advanced Wakandan technology. Black Panther is written by award-winning novelist David Liss, who penned last year’s Daring Mystery Comics 70th Anniversary Special for Marvel, and penciled by Francesco Francavilla (Zorro), who drew those “Man Without Fear” teasers. Daredevil returned to its original numbering a year ago with Issue 500. The continuation of that numbering under the new name, a la Incredible Hercules, suggests we’ll see a return to plain ol’ Daredevil before too long. Meanwhile, the four-issue Daredevil: Reborn, by Andy Diggle and Davide Gianfelice, will launch in January.
