I'll have to admit to getting caught in the Shi craze back in the mid 90s when his original series was getting under way. His Oriental style covers were making a very nice set as a collected volume and was fun to put side by side and view, but as for the story and character itself, I thought it was lame and never could take reading more than a couple of pages before letting it down. I remember picking up Tomoe and Horseman when they 1st came out. I have the Horseman #1 that opens up backwards. I always thought it was kinda neat for a gimmick. After that, he seemed to drop out of view and I didn't think of him much except when I seen Shi. I had no interest in that character so I thought that would be all she wrote with him. Recently though I've noticed he's been spreading his wings and getting into projects you wouldn't think of him doing like a Sgt Rock mini not long ago and I think I seen something else not Crusade related lately that looked surprising good. I was pretty glad to see him not just rest on his laurels and ride the coattails of Shi for the rest of his career. He seems as though he is trying hard to expand his horizons and for that I applaud him. Can't say I know a lot about him or his work but visually it looks good and he had his own hook to get his deal going. So even though he's pretty much out of the spot light anymore, I am glad he's finding ways to show his works to broader audiences. I'm actually hoping he does more non-Shi related works in the near future.
