Yeah, I posted this on my Comic Timeline thread, but didn't really make a general post like this one. Unfortunately, I quit comics around 1997 until around 2001, so most of what took place then I really didn't get to see and typically when I see comics from that period, namely Marvels, a lot them look like shit if you ask me. I'm not sure if that's a reflection of him or the times or whatever. I just personally don't know much about him. I'm quite intrigued however by DC's moves of late and I think they'll become a leaner more efficient comic company. At least hopefully. I'm not buying into DC's demise in the near future. It was only about 5 years ago that they were buzzing along as the hot comic publisher of the day. I think they'll struggle and work their way out of it. I could be wrong, I just don't see DC done yet. I see other dominoes falling before they do. I guess only time will tell.

...as DC's new Editor-in-Chief! From Comic Shop News #1217 Thoughts? He led Marvel when they produced their very worst material. Someone described him as a company man. I'm betting they thought he'd be a good axe man. df1

Great. So now that he has moved away from directly running DC's collections division where he completely ignored gathering work from those creators he did not like, he is now in charge of the company so that he can fire everyone who ever disagreed with him in order to ensure his personal friends have work.
Harras is a piece of shit who not only flushed Marvel down the tubes, but was rewarded with helping them through their bankrupsy proceedings.

They have to be loyal to the company and disregard the emotions behind their actions. Quality isn't their concern. Doing what the company wants and getting their paycheck with a pat on the back from upper management is. I do believe he was hired to be an axe man, not someone with a goal to rebuild the company, sales, etc. df1

I do believe he was hired to be an axe man, not someone with a goal to rebuild the company, sales, etc. Perhaps they needed someone willing to be the axeman before they could make their focus be on rebuilding. He's doing their bidding as asked but it probably needs to be done too. It remains to be seen what comes up from the ashes after his demolition. Obviously, the status quo isn't going to cut it anymore. I'm hoping other companies will learn from this as well. There is a whole lot of books out there that could easily be slashed and the few quality titles remaining would serve as a good foundation for other titles in the company. However, I doubt that will happen until it is absolutely necessary. I'm hoping DC did it early enough to right the ship.

One thing both companies could do is take their B, C, and D level characters who cannot carry a long term title and feature them together in an anthology format just like MArvel Comics presents used to. If done properly, these books could fill out the supporting cast and stories of many characters. You could for example have a street level book that has Luke Cage, Moon Knight and Iron FIst in it, along with Heroes for Hire. these could support both Daredevil and Spiderman.
Or you could have one that ties into the Cosmic books which have become very popular this year. Or even some type of X-anthology.
That way you don't need to be buying a bazillion 1-shots.
