I think the art sucks. I haven't had my curiosity remotely piqued by any random issue I've picked up and started reading. I also have no interest in the horror genre and least of all zombies. I don't get the fascination people have with horror or zombies. I don't even want to get it.
That statement right there explains fully why this title or any other horror themed title doesn't work for you.
Its not an Action film. Its not a superhero thing. Its a story about human beings set in a world filled with monsters where they are actually worse than the monsters.
As for when Rick falls out of the bed and can barely walk, I thought it was self explanetory when his partner was talking to him and put the flowers down to when he responded which turned out to be sometime in the future since all of the flowers were dead, showed that he was in a coma.
In case you are not aware, people who wake from comas usually have to go through some physical therapy since their muscles tend to atrophy.
I agree on the little girl scene.
Rick, his wife and son and his partner are from Kentucky. They established that.
In the books, none of the characters are from Atlanta. They were heading there from all points because that is where the Military was telling people to go.
The art in the first 12 issues is by the original artist. His art is a little simpler than the Artist who does the series since issue twelve. The characters are drawn very realistically throughout the series, and really emote. As I stated in another thread, even though I am drawn towards artists who draw a certain way, I do not want every book to look like it was drawn by the same person. the art in WD is not slick. It is realistic but in a rough gritty sort of way.
I cannot stand B/W comics but this one just has such strong writing that I got past that and was sucked into it.
Stupid people in stupid conversations? sounds like highly realistic characterization to me.
Especially when you have a bunch of people who
A.) do not know each other
B.) do not trust each other
C.) Have no clue as to what the fuck is going on, but need to depend on anyone they can in order to survive.
so when you consider those plot devices, the conversation makes sense and if you gave it half of a real effort, you would see that Rick becomes a strong sensible leader. even though his character goes through worse than most.
How would you act if you found yourself in that situation...as unlikely as the situation actually happening is.
Why are people into horror and Zombies?
Horror-people like to be scared getting scared pushes a rush of endorphins into the system which makes you feel energised. Or high depending on how you look at it.
Zombies- Did you ever read the bible?
Books of Matthew talks about how when Christ died on the cross, the dead rose from their graves and killed all of the romans they came across for 3 days.
Revelations talks about how the Dead will walk the earth in the end times.
Funny the show is called the Walking Dead. which works both ways for the Revelations aspect, since Its a zombie show but its about the survivors just like the vague referance in the bible to the Dead walking the earth could also easily just mean the remeaining survivors.
So considering how religious most people in this country and around the world are, is it really a wonder why the subject is so facinating to them.
Not to mention that as far as horror monsters go, a zombie at a distance and at first glance could get overlooked as being just another human...until its to late.
Walking dead is anything but predictable. Many of the charcaters that have already been introduced end up dead. Usually right after you get hooked on them.
also, trying to pick up a random issue of this series and figure out what is going on is about as sensible as reading a russian newspaper and not knowing how to read the language.
Like Y the last man or Duex Ex Machina, these are long form stories that only work if you read the whole thing. You cannot just decide to pick up a random issue and hope to understand it. there are no stand alone stories. no zombie of the week or any of that.
Same with 100 Bullets. You can read one arc and get a good story out of it, but unless you read all 100 issues, you will miss the actual story that builds up over the course of the series.
Who cares how many copies it sells. Its how its written that determines the quality.
Regarding guns moving the plot along. Well the guns overall are very limited in use in the Walking dead for reasons that they have already explained.
But I also cannot stand police shows. Procedural police shows, Legal shows and the like. But you know, we live in the US where people love their guns and its all about law and order.
I mean how many fucking NCIS shows do we need?
