I'm sure you've seen this by now. Some Broadway show featuring Spider-Man in Turn off the Dark fell approximately 30 feet when his cabling snapped 7 minutes before the end of his performance. What amazes me is how easily it looks like his safety cable snaps. It almost looks like the ledge was a perfect design to snap the cable. I understand the show has been temporarily postponed and now all kinds of OSHA and other authorities are checking this out. I also heard this show cost many millions to make. Anyway, the guy got pretty busted up, but I hear he is going to make it. Lucky dude actually.

I have no idea what I'm looking at in that video. It sounds like the high budget has caused them to rush things and poorly plan things out. I don't see how OSHA would ever approve a stunt related show like that anyway.

The show has the actors flying over the audience. It is very different from other shows that have done htis including the long running Peter Pan. The Edge and Bono are financiers and musical directors of the show and Julie Taymor is one of the best directors working. The show is not supposed to open until Jan 7 but the way it is going with the mishaps, I don't know if it ever will.

The show has been all in the news, so I know the details of that. I also know they have to use a special cable that is very small in diameter. It has to be small enough that it's not obvious and strong enough to support whatever weight it is suspending. I've seen a news story about that a few years ago. I'm guessing the cable got caught on his shoe and broke because it couldn't take whatever forces were pinching it. It looked like the actor screwed up and the configuration of the stunt was poorly choreographed anyway. That's my assumption from those few seconds of video. They really need a physics major on the set to calculate the math for all their stunts if they don't have one already. Too many people are completely ignorant of physics and I've seen the results of their ignorance play out as either serious accidents or death.

Yeah I agree. The video looks like the cable catches on the edge of the platform and snaps. Don't know if I would want to play Spidey that bad.
