Never really had a problem with Larsen outside of his pushing his political agenda in his books. ays enjoyed the Dragon, (tho I haven't read it since his big "endorsement" issue) I've got a problem with that. I don't mind if you put the President in a comic. Marvel used to do it with great dramatic effect all the time. I do have a problem with pushing your political agenda down my throat through a comic. I should never know your viewpoint reading a comic. Why potentially alienate half your viewing audience by appealing to only one side of the crowd? Once you've made the choice of making an agenda of polarizing nature out of your comic, I no longer have a desire to support it. Change the name to the Savage Democrat so you can know what you're buying or else shut the fuck up.

I don't care about whether politics are in comics or not, but as a creator they need to really be conscious of whether or not it makes the character and comics more interesting. If it alienates loyal readers, then maybe it's not the best subject matter to include. Too many modern comics are only interested in stunts or shock appeal rather than developing the character and making them more endearing. df1

I don't know....to me it doesn't look very American to paste a president all over everything because he is new, black and the opposite of what we had before if you never showed any support for the previous presidents.
It's like every black person at my job has multiple Obama pics on their desk and desktops, but I never once seen any of these same people have any George Bush(s), Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagon pictures on their desk before Obama came along. I'm not saying it's wrong to support Obama. But it looks pretty shallow to be all out there like that if you never publicly supported any president before he showed up.
If the next President is either white, woman or Republican are we going to see Savage Dragon covers with that president acting like NOW we're going to FINALLY get something accomplished?
I preferred seeing whichever president was in office whether democratic or republican calling on heroes because "America needs you" in comics. Not because we have one who thinks like the author does.

first I am all for cancelling ALL zombie comics except for The Walking Dead, because none of the others are of equal quality.
I also agree that all multiple titles need to be cancelled. I am so over seeing 3-5 versions of a single character or title a month.
As for Larsen and political discourse, I think Larsen is an alright guy. He is fun and outspoken. He is very blunt and to the point which is a lot like me so I can respect that. Personally I have had a few laughs with the guy in the past. As for him working on the same title for so long, GREAT! I would prefer to see the same team on a title for as long as possible so the consistency is in place. Bendis has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man and it is by far the best spidey title going. Dave Sim did Cerebus for 300 issues. He is doing another title now. Larsen, 168 issues of Dragon. The comic is the least serious comic on the stands. Its just fun.
I agree that it is a slippery slope when including your political stance into your entertainment work, but the country has become so partisn in the last couple of years that its practically unavoidable now.

I think Larsen is doing it because it boosts sales. People who don't care about the character are buying it because Obama is on the cover. If you could get a thousand extra orders on a comic during this time of low print run, you might do the same. Especially since many indy comics are barely printing enough copies to break even financially. The problem is that he's increasing circulation, but I'm not so sure he's increasing readership. I've seen others complain online. If the complaints are coming from readers that are dropping the title, then he's making a mistake. If the complaints are coming from people who weren't buying the comic anyway, then the negative backlash is some pretty good product awareness advertising. From a marketing perspective, it looks like an act of desperation. He should probably switch over and use Lady Gaga or some other controversial figure if he just wants to milk off of someone else's fame. df1

If you G's original post this has nothing to do with sales or quality it about being a Corporate asshole. I have to agree. Well Larsen has joked that we will do 301 issues to break Sim's record. This is nothing new back when Superman first debuted he was a VERY liberal character, then in the 70s Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams did their (in)famous run on Green Lantern/Green Arrow. I don't mind it because it shows the guts the creators and the company to take a stand on an issue and it helps to make the world a better place.
