I don't want Stephanie Buscema drawing anything. They need to improve the art, not step back. They need to re-compress stories and force artists to draw in a style that conveys 'action' the way that 'How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way' outlines. The art does not facilitate telling a story. This guy is essentially saying... 'shock the reader' with new art styles. Fuck that. I'm sick of it. Focus on the fucking story and make it a story that evokes thought. I'm sick of comics being a body builder fashion show in spandex. df1

I can see where you get that and I got that too, that's why I said I didn't agree with his examples. I don't think what he likes and wants is what I want. What I do agree with is stop looking at declining sales and doing the same shit. I can look at 100 other superhero comics and they're all giving me just about the same looks, poses, poster shots and even story arcs that begin and end with nothing. What I agree with is the shaking things up part. But not for the sake of just shaking things up. I think if you're sales are declining, you can't stick with what you've been doing and you can't do what everyone else is doing. I think there is way too much of that today.
They're used to be places and days you could find Steranko type art, Starlin type art, BWS type art, Buscema type art, Kirby type art, Bryne type art, Perez type art.
Now I keep feeling like I'm looking at clones of the big artists of today and not much variance at what they do or offer. In the stories, I'm wading through filler BS to get to what's real. Simplicity is gone. And that's what the status quo says about the old days that they thing sucked about it. Too simplistic. And yet today's stories are the opposite and just dry as hell. Why keep doing what isn't working? Don't replace an artist with someone who is going to do more of the same. Don't replace a writer with another point-one story arc. Go back to the time proven formulas that worked for years. Hell decades.
It's sorta like a politician thing. Maybe at one point, comics were too far to one side just like a politician may have been too far left or right. Comics and fans felt like they needed a departure from that and we were given that but also we flooded the market with it. Now we are too far to the other side. Comics need to come back towards the center.
The crossovers, mini and maxi-series, point one story arcs and copy cat art is sucking the life dry these days. Hell, I'm giving about 20 comics a month a try and literally only 1 or 2 are worth a second issue. I never felt that way in the old days. The formula today is all wrong. We need people in charge who get that. Don't shake things up just for the sake of shaking it up. Shake things up in the form of realizing what you're doing now isn't working and you need to find a way to get not only new readers to come but bring back the old readers who left. They're is so many people on the sidelines and they are untapped. Stop catering to the minority who like this shit and get to the majority who left it.

he was not so much as taslking about the guys who do those crap pages, but more for the need for the people who can push the boundries of graphic storytelling. That Frank Quietly two page spread with the cat is just an incredible page. It tells so much in those panels. And that book WE3 is just filled with that type of stuff.
But, He was definitely wanting people to break from the norm of the straight grid layout, I would also like to see more of that. As long as it is done properly. He is right that the indy books tend to get more experimental with their storytelling.
