I could have done without a few of the titles you had up there but I'm okay with the list you made. I'm real tired of alternate universes and scenarios in characters too. I think it adds to the confusion factor. One major beef I have with a character like say on DC's side Batman, is there are too many versions of him and the only way I can tell who is who is by looking at the emblem on his chest. And even then, I don't recall which is which and who is who and I get them mixed up. I personally don't want to see multiple characters portraying a super hero. I personally feel like comic companies should lessen the confusion and not create more.
The Crossgen titles deserve a shot because they are owned properties but from what I seen of the previous issues, they looked kind of half assed and not the real quality pieces of work we seen from the original Crossgen. It's impossible to recreate that magic in the bottle mix (ala Valiant), but if you're only going to go through the motions with it, I'd rather do without. If they can put together some real quality pieces of work which is apparent from the 1st glance as it was previously, I'm all for them returning to the lineup.

Even if they were to get back to the point I liked, someone would come along and whine because they wanted the universe to have some crap that I don't like. Crossgen never interested me. The only title I bought new from them was Abadazad (sp?) and I didn't even read those. I bought them for the Ploog art. df1

The only title I bought new from them was Abadazad (sp?) and I didn't even read those. I bought them for the Ploog art. It would take a lot for me to ever be into Marvel or DC again. I'm not saying it's impossible, but things are so far removed and so far from the way I want them to be that I have doubts I will ever care them even half as much as I once did. I have faith in the characters themselves, I just don't have faith in the people who run the business and create the comics. It feels like there is a collective mentality among all the comic publishers and they all try and do it kind of the same way but with their characters and their own spin on it. Unfortunately, it leaves me feeling pissed off and not wanting to continue on. I'm looking for a power guy with a clue to emerge and get a companies act together. I don't know if that will ever happen. The current crop seems to have such a foothold that anytime anyone quits or gets fired, its usually replaced with someone "in the club" and the same path of failure is followed and usually to an even worse degree. I think we need a true unknown outsider to come in and really shake things up including sending some big names walking. I think if someone truly came in and pissed the current crop of creators and owners off, I think that would be enough to grab my attention right there and take note. I've seen plenty of fans pissed off over the last decade or two but its been rare if ever have I seen the powers that be pissed off. I'd love to see a lot more accountability for failures and dwindling sales numbers.

The comic, announced Saturday at NYCC's Cup O' Joe panel, isn't replacing either of the current Avengers books written by Bendis writing another Avenegrs series and he's teaming up with artist Bagley, this is the greatest news I've heard all year! Yay! Yippee! Look out DC Marvel is going to reclaim the throne! This is great! /extreme sarscasm] I liked Bendis' crime-noir and superhero crime-noir books like ( Powers, Alias, and his run on Daredevil). But I don't think he can write a grand superhero epic or a classic team like The Avengers very well or at least in a way that memorable (good or bad) to me. I read the first arc of his New Avengers vol. 1 and I while I agreed it was about time (IMHO it was long overdue) for Marvel to put it's biggest names on the team the way he wrote them coming together felt to me way too contrived and was basically altogether a very forgettable story unlike Justice League: A Midsummer's Nightmare which re-teamed Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter and led into the one of two books that Grant Morrison has ever written that I actually loved JLA (and FTR the other is Batman: Arkham Asylem-A Serious House on Serious Earth). All Bendis delivered Captian American, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine and some second and third string characters in a bland action story that other the name value of it's main characters really had nothing of any real value. Bagley is probably the best super-hero artist going in the field today but I have heard very mixed results of his artwork on Brillant (which isn't about superheroes) ranging from OK at best to downright awful at worse. While the trailer to The Avengers movie looks exciting and fresh, this the announcement of a new Avengers comic books series (that is what four titles now) with an extremely over-rated writer and artist pairing with first promo artwork this already looks and feels boring to me. If Marvel was smart they would hire a writer and artist that would at least draw some real attention to the book and not a pairing that has already been around for over a decade and are already doing another title, Brilliant together. I think will re-read The Ultimates and The Ultimates 2 a pair of series that aren't boring.

I'm not down on Bagley's art in general. I think the man can draw and draw well. I'm just not a fan of his style and his stylization of doing things. I'm not into boney Spiderman and overdone poses and fan-out shots like the one shown here. I'd like Bagley more if he was less about Style and more about just solid work. Sometimes I think when an artist has a style I don't like initially, they can tend to improve on it over the years and I develop a like for it. I've always thought Bagley could draw, but I'm not seeing him improve with his style over the years. I can't fault him for it. He's a cash cow and its working for him. Just personally, he doesn't appeal to me. I can't take him serious. He's like a Disney version of Marvel characters to me. I'm never wowed by him. All his stuff just looks the same to me.

Well considering that Disney owns Marvel...I would have to agree. I think he needs to get away from superheroes and superpowered dramas and maybe try something another genre' like a sci-fi space opera, a horror story, or maybe even a stylized lincensed property like G.I. Joe or Transformers you know something that can really push him out of his comfort zone.

I think it would improve him in areas I'd like to see improved. I know Disney owns Marvel. When I think Marvel and Bagley, I think Bagley should be drawing shots for entrances for Marvel/Disneyland theme park rides. I could see getting on a ride and seeing his drawings in the promos for the ride as I get in line. His art is safe for families and kids of all ages. That's what I think I don't like about him when it comes to comics. He's not gritty. He's just safe. When I see Bagley on a Superhero's comics credits, I'm just not interested. I think I would be though if he drew some of the things you mentioned. He DOES need to step out of that safe comfort zone. I find his art boring.
