One good thing about Vegas right away was there wasnt any rain delaying the race or any of the events and everyone could concentrate on just racing. The track also seemed to lend itself to much better racing than California ever did. There was plenty of side by side action. It appears the COT car is making racing better, which compared to the awfully boring 2007 season, was sorely needed. Hopefully this trend continues.
The race wasnt bad, it appeared Kyle Busch or one of the Roush cars, along with Gordon and Jr seemed to be the class of the field, each taking turns leading laps. Tony Stewart wrecked for the 2nd day in a row and appeared very gimpy getting out of his car.
Towards the end is was down to Edwards, Jr, Kenseth and Gordon when a late caution came out and bottled up the field with less than 10 laps to go. The restart was single file, but JR spun his tires as he took the green and Kenseth and Gordon went around, but coming out of the corner, Gordon's car crept up and tapped Kenseths which got him sideways. Gordon tried avoiding Kenseths car and turned hard to the left. Too hard, he went barreling into an opening into the inside wall on an absolutely gruesome wreck. If this would have happened 8 years ago, Gordon may have been killed. Instead he walked away just a little sore. I tried tremendously to find a pic of the crash, but could not find one anywhere. Instead I found a video showing it. Hopefully it is up on youtube a long time so this video remain valid. It should show the impact better than a picture.
Was the cleanup was done, Edwards rolled to an easy 2nd victory in a row, but was later found to have a missing oil cap which causes the car to go faster. He was fined 100 pts, and lost his crew chief for 6 weeks. But retained the win.
The racing was pretty decent and better than last year, but still not spectacular. Good enough show though. Way better than California.
