I'm one of those people who view things from a historical point and I don't know if this has been up before on other boards. If it has, I'm unaware of it. But I got to wondering, what was the first books, or the first months that barcodes started appearing on covers?
I know it had to be around the mid-1970s. I was packing a book today that was a Logan's Run #6 which I believe was from 1976 and it had a bar code on the cover. These were 30 cent comics. Was wondering if there were 25 cent comics that had it? I'm not sure. I'm just starting to want to narrow down when did that practice begin? When did it become that small rectangle on the bottom of covers that started having to be accounted for on comics?
If we can't narrow it down to 1st comics to have it, I'd like to know what was the 1st month it was used. I'd have to think that has some odd significance as well as the same for the last books in a run being printed without a bar code box.
Just the weird way my mind thinks.

I'm not really sure, but I know Mad magazine resented the barcode and had one cover that really mocked it. I remember when it came out. April of 1978 is the first Mad magazine cover with one. Mad #198 (the one I remember) www.comics.org/issue/93998/cover/4/Mad #207 (a common style of mocking it) www.comics.org/issue/94007/cover/4/Mad # 210 (fully dedicated to the bar code) www.comics.org/issue/94010/cover/4/df1
