I guess everyone is human and shit happens but I find it a bit careless to leave a portfolio in a taxi cab trunk. Judging by the drawing, it looks like it would have easily fit in the back seat. I imagine he put other stuff in the trunk but when removing, I would think you would be extra concerned you got everything.
I also dont like how he calls the taxI cab driver out on his inexperience and tries to make up for it by saying he was nice and professional. Seemed like unnecessary info.Could have noted he seemed iinexperienced, but I dont think he needed to go into detail like that on a cab driver he hopes will be a good Samaritan.

Neal is rather blunt with his opinions. 1) I would go directly to the Cab companies and check their records before publicizing anything. 2) I would offer a reward, but not mention the value at all. 3) I agree about insulting the drivers capabilities. When you are trying to evoke the best of human kindness, don't insult the guy you want the help from. 4) If it's really an indy driver that is inexperienced and such, he probably had no idea what the art was worth. My guess is that it's in the trash or on his kids' walls. 5) Maybe it was stolen? When you lose something, how often are you 100% sure where you left it? df1

Yeah, I just dont like the way he is going about it. He drew the mans picture and talked crap about him and acts like the driver did something wrong when really its Neal's fault if he left it in the taxi. He's drawing the man's face like he is a wanted man or something.
Neal is one of those artists who kind of disappoints me. I know this isnt about this but he was so kick ass in the 70s and 80s and his modern stuff looks like a hack of his old self. It almost feels like he relies on his name now than putting out the same quality he once did. He seems like hes part of the wrong machine problem and not one doing anything to make the craft better.
Between his decline in quality work and this neglect of work and then almost frame the driver in the process for his negligence, ive lost a tad bit of respect I once had for him.

Between his decline in quality work and this neglect of work and then almost frame the driver in the process for his negligence, ive lost a tad bit of respect I once had for him. First and foremost, he's human. Neal has been the subject of so much praise, that it's really difficult for him to be objective about who he is or how people view what he says. I can picture Neal saying everything in the flyer and not thinking he said anything insulting. As far as his art goes, I can't knock him from hacking it out these days. Everyone starts hacking it out over time and he's still better at it than a lot of other creators. I haven't lost any respect for him, but I do realize he's human. If you look up artist Tom Scheuer, you'll see that Neal draws very much like Tom who was doing advertising art. Neal brought advertising art quality to comics and then fought for comic creators rights to earn pretty much what advertising artists could make. When it didn't really work as he intended, he stepped back and did more advertising art. Was he ever really that much better than everyone out there? Nah, there were plenty of talented artists making more money drawing things other than comics. df1

I lost the 2 best Darrow in a taxi a loss of over 100k Went with a friend who was picking up Bob Burden so he could get to the airport. Bob had a Darrow piece on an easel in his living room. We didn't go inside, but I thought that was neat. Defiant1
