I have jury summons for a day next week. For some reason I can't imagine any lawyer wanting a quality inspector to nitpick the details of their case. cfs That is one thing I have never been picked to do. Jury Duty. My wife was picked for a murder case a few years ago. It would suck if it was something that just dragged on & on. I think I've been to the Decatur court house three times and just sat in a room all morning. This will be a county courthouse. Not sure what the differences will be. The way they do it here is one day or one trial. Since they always released me before the screening process, I've never been assigned to a trial. cfs

Well, only jurors #1 through 73 have to report. I was juror 656. Isn't that absurd? It doesn't really sound like they wanted me to appear if they are giving me a number that high and only need 73 people.

My job used to try to pull that stuff and say you couldnt surf the internet and stuff. But the realization was.....everybody was doing it. To fire someone was to be hypocritical over it. Everyone from workers to management surfed and done things they shouldnt be. In the end, they didnt make an example out of anybody. In order to keep enforcing it, they would have had to pretty much let go of all their good people. Amazingly, just this year they started a "limited use" privilege in writing providing it didnt interfere with your normal work. They just basically caved in. I read an article about 2 yrs ago saying it was more productive for workers to take care of small tasks by the internet from work than to try and block illegal internet usage at work. Not only does it keep the morale up, but it allows workers to take care of small things that they may have had to others take a day off of work for was the thinking. I have to claim guilty of it on a daily basis. Im often minimized on this site and I keep up with my stocks and sports daily too. I get my work done too. But, to live without it is a feeling of oppression that is hard to overcome. If I couldnt surf at work, Id be less happy than I am now.

Because they are in cost saving mode and I have an EXTREMELY capable helper now that is a temp.... I "could" be considered expendable. My coworkers like to say I'm too important, but all they care about is meeting numbers on a spreadsheet.
The funny thing is that NOBODY in the building wants my job. I make it look easy, but anyone who has seen the pressures I deal with from day to day is a little scared to be in my shoes. If we have a multimillion dollar product about to ship late, you can bet the CEO of the company is reading my reject reports. Not my supervisor or my supervisors boss. I'm talking 4 levels higher. You can't roll over and play dead in my job. If you do, I think it's called willful negligence. Remember the last NASA space shuttle that crashed? Did you know an inspector had 40 indictments against him for signing off on things that were problems? If a train crashes in Denver or Portland... nobody is coming back to me and saying I didn't do my job.
By far I'm not the weak link in the chain, but I am the messenger and people like to shoot the messenger.
