The only certain is Xmas. I was doing that out of choice for awhile. I worked a boatload of overtime, was way ahead in my savings and then my transmission went out and ate up 3 grand of the money. Vacation days are like a raise. I spend over $100 in gas every week. Staying home and not driving to work will be like saving $300 of the money I normally don't get to see & use. cfs

I cannot say it is really working out that way for me. I wish it was. I worked today from 8:30am to 9:05pm. I live 40 miles from work. I got home around 10. Ive eaten and now Im in front of the computer. Ive only been home 1 hr and I should be going to bed. I get up at 5am so I can repeat the process. I have to drop kids off and stuff. I'm about as burned out as I have been in a long time. It's kept me from really making new threads and working as hard as I would like to on the boards.
I know it probably might look like I am on here all the time, but one good thing is I have a desk job. I have my website minimized virtually all day. When the coast is clear, I take some looks at the board. Occasionally and happily, someone may have made a post. I may respond, but I cant really get into it. I just have to make a quick response.
Today being the 5th is the last day I could work on November's requirements. After all this OT, I missed what I needed to do by 2 monitors (about 30 minutes work). Im rather upset I worked virtually tons of OT and still wound up being about 30 minutes short of what I needed. Tomorrow I fill out an exceptions list and have to post those 2 there (plus a couple of others I was unable to obtain but the 2 others would have satisfied my own personal goals for the month).
I dont want it to be all doom and gloom. I have made some killer checks . But Xmas and other influences are taking major havic on it. Since tomorrow is the start of a new working month for me, for 1 day I am going to take it easy and then leave work on time or barely later.
I envy your extended vacation cfs. Its not like I dont have vacation. Here it is year's end and I have 6 days left. And in January I pick up 4 addition weeks for the new year and 7 more sick days. The problem I am having with this new position I have been in for nearly a year now, is I can hardly afford to take a vacation because I will come no where close to finishing my requirements for that month when I do go.
Current plan is to stay good until April when the new fiscal year starts. And it doesnt do no good taking vacation in winter anyway. Once I get to the new fiscal year and get my eval which determines my raise and bonus, I'll start taking vacations regardless. Ive put in a hell of a year this year. I deserve some compensation.
I know I sound like Im whining here and maybe I am. But, above all Im trying to just post. Whining rant is over.
Im just tired and want to work more on my board.

I know I sound like Im whining here and maybe I am. But, above all Im trying to just post. Whining rant is over. Im just tired and want to work more on my board. Sorry to hear about your work situation. I watched management downsize our department so much in the early 00's, that I pretty much refused to work overtime during that process. Management wasn't happy, but I wasn't happy either. I saw a lot of good workers let go and nobody replaced them. People that assisted me in doing certain jobs were there and I was expected to get the same work done without them. I saw a pattern of them letting an employee go just days before a new manager stepped in. They wouldn't tell the new manager he was supposed to get the same job done with one person less. They tried to intimidate me into working overtime and I just said no. They tried to harass me when my dad was having really bad health episodes, so I applied for protection under the Clinton Family Medical Leave Act. At that point they backed off. If my dad has a problem for any legitimate reason and I need off, they can't say anything about it. Once they got off their vendetta to make me work overtime, everything has been fine. When they got me the necessary help to do my job, I looked at my dad's improved medical situation and agreed to work overtime when it was feasible or to my advantage. They don't dictate my personal time and I'm an "all or nothing" type of personality. If their terms are not acceptable to me, I'd just as soon be unemployed. It's not something I fear. Getting a job is sometimes tough, but I've never been fired. I was suspended at one job once without pay to punish me. I insisted on being paid since I was suspended based upon hearsay. They refused and I quit. They wanted me back, but I don't want to work where I'm being harassed. I quit another job where they wanted me to fire a guy because he was black.... I'm not joking. I'd already had a run in verbally with the district manager. I basically told him what I would and would not do. All his underlings were bursting out in laughter because they were all afraid of the guy. I didn't care. He offered me a promotion. I've always said "You get in life what you settle for." I settle for less, but that's because "more" will be on my terms and no one else's. Too many people want strings attached to their favors. I pretty much insist on no strings attached. cfs

Can't do any work today. They are having an inventory audit and everything I need to do involves moving inventory....
Too bad there aren't any new posts to read... well... maybe a few... but I have nothing to say on the topics discussed.

Too bad there aren't any new posts to read... well... maybe a few... but I have nothing to say on the topics discussed. CFS Aww man...I feel bad for you. Well post all you want on new material. We like that too! ;D Shop talk? Oh wow! RHOS compliance continues to be a problem. Manufacturers across the board have made slight material changes to their products to remove lead in their plating as well as hexavalent chromium. The material changes mean part number changes. The part number changes mean a lot of changes for us. Some of our data sheets have to be updated. Our computer system has to be updated. ECN's and ECO's to BOM's are occurring left and right. As all these changes occur to meet European regulations, the impact and changes from our domestic suppliers is happening at a much slower pace. We're trying to get local platers to switch over from tin plating to a nickel/tin combination or a straight out nickel plating. Quality problems have just been popping up everywhere. Vendors that were once reliable are tasked with trying to keep their prices affordable despite the rise in prices of precious metals. One vendor cites that the copper bar stock they've been getting from the manufacturer is of a lower grade and appears to have more impurities than ever. Are they trying to justify an increase in prices or are the manufacturers of the bar stock lowering quality to try and keep sales and profit the same? Regardless of how you look at it, marginal quality at any level cause more rejections and rework of materials. This drives prices up needlessly. At least if supply & demand were the only problems we faced, the price increases would tie into a product of value for the money. Waste and rework has no value. cfs
