I came mere moments (and dollars) away from winning my first ever copy of Green Lantern #76. Damn, it kind of stung.

You may have seen me post this over at Lyria, but now I actually have it and even though it's low grade, I think it looks better in person than the picture I seen when I bought it. I really got a great buy on it. I've tracked some other sales of the book and copies that looked a lot worse than mine went for more. And ones that looked about the same or slightly better than mine went for a lot more than I got it for. I think I got lucky and seen it at the right time and I only had one other person trying to outbid me at the same time I bought it and the price was already low. So I put in a way higher bid and and the guy trying to outbid me lowballed it, so I got it real cheap. I normally don't make it a habit to collect low grade DC's, but if I can get books like this I'll take it. This makes up for me missing out on the Green Lantern #76.

I took my first stab at trying to win a Comic Link Featured Auction comic last month and came away with my 1st ever victory. Being this site deals with mainly high end books and CGC's, I had to troll the lower end of the spectrum. When the going got down to a few hours left, there was 4 or 5 books within my immediate price range that I felt was still worthy of trying for. I won't say this was the one I most wanted, but the others started sliding up the scale and getting out of my range. There was still 2 or 3 left and this was one of them. This one had a lot of bids (15 including mine) but had remained low enough to still consider. I looked it up in the OSPG and seen that #1 is listed as the 1st Charlton Comic Book in the Funny Animal Genre which is pre-Charlton name which the Charlton name started in 1946. This is a "Children Comics Publication" which is a pre-Charlton imprint. Needless to say, I consider myself a Charlton fan and collector, so it was one more reason for me to bid on this one. I took it home for about 1/2 guide and being it's a high grade CGC from 1945, now that I have it, I don't feel too bad about it. I'm hoping I can continue buying things like this for the foreseeable future. I think as we've discussed before, that I've got enough low value stuff to now feel like I'm at an age where I want to only add books that have more meaning and significance to them. This kind of fits the bill. It may not be special to anyone else, but if I can get books like this, I'll take it....

I know you never say that lightly, so thanks! I appreciate that! Really, I don't. I think the very early Charltons are undervalued. df1

"G" that Zoo funnies is a nice book. I wouldn't mind having it myself. I would really like that KEY Flash book also. I believe that book not only marks the first meeting of silver and golden aged Flash characters, but also the first Idea of a Multiverse.
I have many old Green Lantern books. My oldest being Issue #15 most in very fine condition, Its one of the few DC titles I have bothered to collect large amounts of besides Justice League and the two main Batman titles.
defient 1: Good Luck meeting Neal Adams. I just took part in a four day argument with his son Josh (a solid artist in his own right) who got mad at my assessment of a couple of Pro's. At the end though he called me a very prolific Artist. Which I feel is a nice compliment. He turned out to be a good enough guy also.
