G,
You really are a fan if you want to hear the songs you describe. You sound like me with another band I gave up on because they wouldn't play anything but radio tracks. I won't mention their name because I don't even want to promote them now.
One of my friends felt that way about REO Speedwagon. He was a big fan of theirs.

Thank god for independent Internet radio stations & My Space,or I would never find out about any of the new bands these days.

Thankfully we have an alternative station that mixes new music in.
I liked albums by the Killers & 30 Seconds to Mars before the radio started playing any depth. One thing for me -- and a reason I never got into Van Halen deeply-- is that I like an album to be consistent. Ice Cream Man & Ain't Talkin' About Love just don't belong on the same album. Those aren't two songs I want to hear near each other. Music conveys mood & emotion. I want it to flow evenly through a CD.
Every once in awhile I'll have to switch over to a clear channel rock station to get away from some song I can't stand. If they are playing Godsmack or Korn I just shut off the radio. I don't hate those bands, I'm just sick of their sound.

Whenever I have an album, there always seems to be a favorite of mine that never plays on the radio and the hits get overplayed. For everytime I hear "You really got me"....I'd rather hear "Mean Streets" "Unchained" or "One foot out the door" or something like that. Pretty much any band I like, if you name them, I can think of songs I dont hear on the radio much compared to other songs that get overplayed. Speaking of overplayed.... I AM FREAKIN SICK OF............... NICKLEBACK!!!! I mean, the band aint too bad. But I am sick of that lead singer. And I cannot....and I mean cannot....ride in my car ANYWHERE and not hear a damn Nickleback song. Enough already! They aint all that!

I don't have a problem with Nickelback because the station I listen to doesn't play them much. They still try to fit in the Euro pop and any folk sdounding alternative song, so Nickleback isn't dominating their playlist.
I get utterly sick of Beastie Boys. I get sick of all the music that tries to cross the lines of racial preference.
I can't friggin' stand that old song "Cult of Personality", but since it's a bunch of black guys playing music that sound like white person rock, radio stations think they are cool and broadening their audience. I can't stand Epic by Faith No More. White guys sounding like a black rap group... Ughhh!
I do like Linkin Park, but I avoid buying their records because I hear them so much on the radio.and TV.
I wish band like Better Than Ezra would go back to their earlier sound.
Some of my favorite songs are non-hits by U2. I don't care anything about Vertigo, Desire. or Pride (in the name of love), but songs like Ground Beneath Her Feet, Ultraviolet, Acrobat, and Electrical Storm are some of my favorites.

I can't stand Epic by Faith No More. White guys sounding like a black rap group... Ughhh! I can forgive you for being sick of Epic because it is the only song played on the radio by them. But honestly, I love Faith No More to death! To be honest, Epic is one of the only songs where they rap. The reason I love Faith is they could play ANY kind of music and do it well. Ive heard songs that sounded like Rock, Thrash, Jazzy, Country, Elevator, Rap...whatever. I hear them labled as Funk Rock. I just think they had a wide range. True in the end they were falling completely off the map. But I also think their album "Angel Dust" is one of the most under rated albums of the 90s. And the smash album "The Real Thing" is really a fantastic album with virtually no airplay of anything except Epic, but the whole album ROCKS!!!

Kindergarten & Crack Hitler are my favorites off that. I do miss the band, but Mike Patton has gone off the deep end! You either love'em or hate'em! aZBATX loves him some Tomahawk!!

Ive got to say that Faith No More is one of my all time favorite bands. Such a damn shame they broke up. I remember they came here in 1997 and I almost went and I ended up not going. They broke up right after that and I have been kicking my self in the ass ever since. Hopefully they'll do like Van Halen and 1 day get back together. I agree that Mike Patton is an enigma. I think he is perfect for Faith No More and a very unique singer. However, he got a bit artsy now that he has left FNM. I have him listed as one of my friends on Myspace. With his new band he has a song I listened to called "Loser online". Not as heavy as the FNM stuff and a lot weirder. But in the end, I still found myself digging his style. But certainly not as much as FNM. Angel Dust is 1 kick ass album. I need to get me another copy. In fact, I have been looking to get it for the last month. Picked up The Real Thing about a month ago and it just got me wanting Angel Dust again. I used to have both but they got lost. Im gonna get me Angel Dust again and when I do Im going to wear that album out.
