I liked the Cars quite a bit in the early 80s. They were fun. But they never got up into the upper ranks of bands I cared about. I always heard that even though their music was good, they were boring in concert because they were kind of a stand still band.

I liked the Cars quite a bit in the early 80s. They were fun. But they never got up into the upper ranks of bands I cared about. I always heard that even though their music was good, they were boring in concert because they were kind of a stand still band. Their music is almost impossible to reproduce live. It has too many subtle nuances that require precise volume levels and timing. Regardless, I am a huge Cars fan. Definitely one of my top ten bands. I only saw them once in 1987. By that time they had a lot of keyboards programmed and precisely timed. It was an excellent show. Earlier recordings I've heard lacked that synchronization. Regardless, if you set aside the studio precision, the live stuff still fascinates me. I have a live DVD from Germany and it's amazing to see how they combine their individual portions to reconstruct the song. This live acoustic track by Ric Ocasek is pretty impressive. drfeelgood9000.vodpod.com/pod/show_video/188514-moving-in-stereo-by-ric-ocasekcfs

Definitely a fan of the Cars, moreso the earlier records.
