I never was a big Kansas fan, but I have seen them live and it was not bad. A lot of my friends are big fans of Kansas and they are playing the 15th in town. I guess I will tell my friend David they are playing and I know he'll want me to go with him.

I actually seen them once. But, it was the best way to see them. Free! ;D They did a free outdoor concert in Downtown Norfolk about 12 years ago at a festival park we have. So, I wouldnt have paid to see them, but free was pretty cool. Most of the show sounded borderline country and nothing anyone knew. The best part of the show was their 2 best songs... Dust in the Wind and Carry on my Wayword Son. You see those 2 songs, you're like "alright".... The rest of the concert is a complete throwaway experience.

The bass player for Kansas was in love with a girl that told me "I was the guy she should have married". I would love to ask him if he still keeps in touch with her. I never met him, but I did see some expensive gifts he bought her. She was dating the manager for Cinderella at the time and I was in love with her roommate. It's kind of surreal to me now. I was flattered that she said what she said, but she was drunk and I never heard from her again after that. cfs

That would make it hard for me to like Kansas I never even considered asking her out because I had liked her roommate for many years. There would be a lot of bands I'd dislike if it came down to just that criteria. I'd have to quit liking... The Scorpions Atlanta Rhythm Section 38 Special Guns & Roses & more cfs

My friend ended up having to work, so I went to a toys for tots concert last night instead. A guy I know from my rock n' roll days is a damn good guitarist. He put together a band for the show. He's probably the best local guitarist I've ever seen play live. He's got about three or four active bands he plays in. Last night they were playing under the name "Yule Log". The club is very small. Rick Richards from the Georgia Satellites was mingling in the crowd. He stood next to me for awhile. Three other bands came on before them. "Lust", "The Despised", and "Zoroaster". I had met the lead singer for "The Despised" last year. He was doing open mic standup comedy when my coworker Bob was doing the same. The whole show had some foul language, so if you were easily offended you shouldn't have been there. I took my camera. I filmed a couple of songs by "The Despised" to send ex-coworker Bob. I saved any remaining time on my memory card to record "Yule Log" playing. I had a lot of problems with the camera right as they started and I set up on the wring side of the stage. Three of the guys in the band must be over 6 foot tall. They were all lined up with their backs to the side of the stage where I was. After rationing space on the memory stick, I was able to get three songs filmed. One was there cover of Feliz Navidad. Another was their reworking of "Grandma got run over by a reindeer". The classic was a cover of "Merry Christmas I Don't Want To Fight Tonight." The video came out very dark. I'd like to get some freeware to do gamma correction on the video to lighten it up. I'm confident a lot of the image is there, it's just very dark. Either way, I ripped the audio from the video and it was pretty darn good for an audience recording. I expected the mic to be overpowered, but the level was pretty good. Lots of cursing though. I couldn't play it in a mixed crowd.
