I think its a jam that kicks ass! Homebrew I don't care for a dirty guitar sound in hardly anything. There are exceptions, but this isn't one. I don't like hardly anything that leans towards funk. This song leads towards funk in my opinion. I don't like anything with lyrics that just drag out like someone has been smoking pot. This song has portions which do that. 311 has some songs Ilike. This just isn't one unfortunately. cfs

As with many things, an acquired taste. I love the dirty guitar sound. I love the funky heavy almost thrashy bass lines. Im not a fan of rap, but sometimes its cool. This is a decent rap/rock song. I never seen the video before, I like that too. The song is only 2 verses and over in 3 minutes rocking the whole time. After I attached here at work, I came home tonight and learned the bass lines to it on my guitar (I play bass). It is a very fun song to play. The funky intro that repeats for the majority of 2 verses is fast and takes a bit of practice, but its not overly difficult to learn or play.
I love a lot of 311 songs. They arent my favorite band, but I wouldnt mind seeing them either. They seem lively to me and multi-faceted. A quality I love in bands.

Filling a range between ballads and rockers is fine. I don't like bands that drift between rock, jazz, rap, funk etc. Music to me has a lot to do with moods. I'm never going to be in the mood for funk, so even one funk song tossed onto an album would annoy me. cfs

I'm never going to be in the mood for funk, so even one funk song tossed onto an album would annoy me. cfs That's the beauty in music. As they say on Different Strokes.... "The world don't move to the beat of just one drum. What might be right for you, may be wrong for some". I appreciate bands who have a certain sound and can be counted on to give you the same type of music time and time again. I think bands like AC/DC, Judas Priest, Pantera,WASP (just to name a few), etc will give you a particular sound and mood you may be looking for and they will do it well and give you exactly what you want at that time. There is nothing wrong with that. I certainly have my share of those type of albums and I love listening to them. But, I also love a band or performer who isnt tied down to playing 1 type of music. Its safe to say not everybody can pull it off when they stretch other boundries, but those that can do it well have my admiration as bands without limits. As someone who likes to tinker with playing, I like the diversity and challenge of some bands. And bands or performers who can play multiple types of songs to me show they have the talent and ability to do so. Through the years, I have been attracted to those types as well, if not more. Bands like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Van Halen and Faith No More are examples of bands or performers who are going to give you a different flavor on many of their songs. That doesnt always work either. Each type has songs I absolutely hate as well. But sometimes hearing the same type of music throughout an album can turn me off. I can say that I liked Disturbed's hits and my son got into them and started buying the albums and playing in my car when we went driving together. I must say, by the end of the album I was sick of them because they just stayed within the same genre and even though I could count on that type of sound throughout, it was apparent their hits were their hits for a reason...because those were easily identifiable as their best tracks in my opinion. I love those tracks, but the rest was not as easy to get into. I would say I loved Metallica more when they just plain stuck with thrash and just ripped it, then after they stretched their boundries and played different types of music. They still have songs I love from their newer material, but this is a band that sometimes I wish would go back to just being a ripping thrash band and forget the rest. But, some of their songs that do diversify, I have really ended up liking. But, this may be a case where expanding their horizons wasnt as good to me as when you could get a tried and true thrashing theme from them. Music is something that appeals to each person differently. I would never say anyone is wrong for liking or disliking a certain type of music. Its a "to each his own" thing. I dont think I can make anyone like what I like and vice versa. You're going to hear it and either like it or you dont. Nothing wrong with that. It's just what makes you tick. We all tick differently when it comes to music.

Agreed. I prefer Metalica after they became pop culture. Can't remeber the bass player's name at the moment, but when he joined they got the hit with Enter:Sandman and that's when I started liking them. After he left I wasn't very impressed again. I switched over and bought the Echobrain album when the bass player started that band. I'd say I'm not really appreciative of my Metalica songs even though my friends roomate was a roadie for them.
