I dont know why, I shunned this band when I was younger. I guess I thought they was Metallica lite and I thought Dave Mustaine was inferior to what Metallica was putting out and just bitter he got forced out of the band and they went to superstardom without him. I also think I wasnt impressed with his voice. So, I let years if not decades go by without giving them a real chance.
Enter last year and my son is getting into all kinds of headbanging rock and thrash. For Xmas I decide to buy him, among others, a Megadeth greatest hits CD figuring he may like it and what better way than to start with the greatest hits to give him a good exposure to them. Well, after Xmas I ripped a copy to my computer and loaded it as another album onto my MP3 player. When i work out on my tread mill Im listening to various albums including this one.
What the hell was I thinking??? I love this band! I never realized how kick ass they truly were. And I think part of it was I was thinking they were thrash only....I dont want to characterize them as thrash. There are bits of it in there, but they are no way dominant thrash. I think they are just kick ass heavy. And Mustaine's voice, who I used to find annoying now I find fitting. And Metallica who I have grown so over (I cannot believe it, but I am SICK of Metallica)....this has become something I prefer instead.
Call me 20 years late, but In the last 3 months, Ive become a huge Megadeth fan!

I like them too. I have seen them twice live. Once at The Boathouse and the second time at The Norva. Both times they were awesome. I was never a big fan of Metallica though. Maybe I'm the odd one.

No, maybe you just got it sooner...
Doesnt make you odd. Just means you realized what I didn't.

I wouldn't say I'm a fan. They just are. I saw them on the tour for the first album. The second album was about to come out. Never saw them again.

I saw this thread the other and meant to post on it but forgot. As I am online now, listening to the streaming radio,Megadeth "My Secret Place" is playing. I too saw Megadeth way back when,I'd say around 1985 or so,but I thought they were too thrashy sounding and aside from a song here & there..Peace Sells,Sweating Bullets,Symphony of Destruction,Area 51,....I never liked them enought to actually anticipate a new release and go buy it when it hit the streets. I haven't seen them since back then until last year when they opened for Heaven & Hell last May in Baltimore and they blew me away.Dave Mustaine owned the crowd! They really surprised me how tight they were and it seemed like they were having fun playing.Unfortunately I see the other lead guitarist that was playing that night has since left the band. They made me a real fan that night!
