As mentioned over on Lyria, I actually picked this one up. It looked "different" right away with a bunch of Golden Age looking characters and a cover that looked purposely warn. I brought it home and read it and I thoroughly enjoyed it compared to most books I buy new today and forget about reading it after my next meal or trip to the bathroom. Im not saying this is going to end up being a great series. All I know is it had a good setup and showed a lot of promise. The art which purposely looks old, suddenly looks fresh the more you read it. It had natural movements among all characters with plenty for the eyes to look around and see. There was something happening almost everywhere. I havent been back to pick up a 2nd issue in a row in a long, long time on a comic. But if I see #2 on the shelves....Im getting it. I just hope it keeps up what it started and doesnt just fade away into mediocrity. [/quote]

I opened it and really thought the art and inking was well done. I didn't buy it, but I'm amazed that Marvel and DC can put out one book with good art while the rest of their titles may look like crap. Do they not see the difference? cfs

I saw this at the store and thought "Gowaltrip has scanned some new crappy book. Let me see how bad it is." I dont post a bunch of crappy new books do I? I dont actually have that many to begin with. I opened it and really thought the art and inking was well done. I didn't buy it, but I'm amazed that Marvel and DC can put out one book with good art while the rest of their titles may look like crap. Do they not see the difference? cfs Man dead on! This book look like it had a purpose and a group of guys talking about what they wanted this book to look like. It looks like some planning went into it. Not just formulatic heroes jumping into scenes with chest poking out with nary a reason to fight other than...."you're there and we're here". This book seemed to have an intent that it was going to have a story and the art was fresh with believability. I havent collected a series in a long time, but I am going to try and get this one. If I do continue to go after it. I think it will be my 1st attempt at a series since 1997. Im praying it doesnt start letting me down but right now, Im going to look for more issues. Thats a promise.

If it's new, it's usually crappy. I don't care for the Sentry. You posted that.

Well, let me just go on the record that any "Comic Background of the Day" does not mean its an endorsement of that book by me. I totally agree that the Sentry/X-Men blows. I got it out of a dumpster a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was so-so upon glancing at it. Bring it home and actually looking at it, I discovered it was a massive turd. But even turds can be the background of the day. The only qualification for Background of the day is to be a comic. The Sentry/X-men crossover sucked. The Twelve....I really like! ;D

I realize that. I thought "Twelve" would be like that. The art is indeed nicer than other things I've seen recently.

I am really enjoying the Twelve. It is an intriguing blend of old-school characters, murder and mystery, men-(and woman and robot)-out-of-time themes for me. I am really enjoying it so far, and have to say it feels more like a (pre-'event overload') DC book than a typical Marvel book.
I am also glad that we are seeing Project: Superpowers at the same time to offer a different take on the old school revisted theme.

I really want to own the whole set of Twelve. But, Ive had major problems accomplishing that.
I purchased #1 off the stands and loved it. For a #1 I could tell this one was special. Well, at least to me. I just had a good feeling that this one was worth picking up.
I missed #2 and #3. Around this time, I started to pre-order comics. So I have #4 and #5.
And dammit if I didnt forget to order #6 when I was supposed to.
Regardless, Im going to finish pre-ordering the rest and then look for 2, 3 and 6 and pick them up whenever I see them. Once I have from 2 until present in hand, I will continue to read them. Just glancing through the ones I have...I know I really want all of these.

Well, I finally pieced together 1-6 and just started reading the rest a couple of days ago. I just finished #6 and I must say I cannot wait for the rest. This is the best thing I have read in quite a long time. This is one of those series that make me proud of comics. The story is real with real drama and characters I care about and like. I want to know what is happening. I want to see their next move. The art is superb. There is so many little details to look at. And the movements are all ones you and I would make. Not a bunch of poster shots. There has not been at this point too many heroic moments. Instead the story is still fleshing out. I have a hard time believing this will be tied up and done in 6 more issues. It's a crying shame. If this was an ongoing monthly by the same team, I would buy it. I guess it will eventually get old and stale, but right now its awesome. It doesnt feel like a Marvel. It feels like it could have a DC logo on the cover or some other company. I dont want brand loyalties getting in the way here. If it was another company, I would praise it just as much. This may be a book that when it is done a year or two later, no one will care. But I think its one that should be called a classic 20 years from now. I cant wait to get the rest of them. I havent said that about a comic in at least a decade.
