I'm late posting this, but I got the book late. I read it and I must say, I still after all these years don't care about DC characters. I trust Jim Shooter to pull a great story out of them, but the art continues to be a problem for me. This story is still building a greater story. We are still being teased about what is going on. A mystery character is introduced and tracking the whereabouts of all the Legion members. I'm paying attention to the members which have their status shown on screen but haven't appeared yet. I'm still involved with the story but it's a strain dealing with characters I'd rather not read about. The art can't be ignored. It's just missing the mark. In one scene they show the palace or wherever Princess Projectra is. It's empty and desolate except for her and a single torch. In the next panel Princess Projectra is supposed to be projecting how lavish the the place was. Uh.... no! The artists draws the same desolate place with pillows scattered around the posts. A few extra torches. Maybe three paintings on the wall and a few scattered stands hold orbs of some kind. Sorry! Don't see lavish. I see friggin' pillows and extra lights. Somehow I don't think Jim Shooters script said "fill up the scene with pillows, we want to show how magnificent it was." The story was fine. It was interesting. The art and characters are a big strain for me with every issue. cfs

If it is the same guy drawing the interiors as it is the person drawing the covers, I can see that. I dont mind DC Characters so much, although I much prefer Marvel Characters 4 to 1 over DC's. I just think Legion is not what I envision when I think Shooter making a comeback. It seems like a 2nd rate team book for him and sure, he could pick it up and put it on the map, but its an otherwise who cares about this team book? The art does look lame from what Ive seen if it is the cover artist. Looks too cute and modern lame style stylized. I would grow sick of it quick. I wish if Shooter came and did a story for DC it would be a book like JLA or some more interesting character like The Spectre or someone like that teamed with an artist of some caliber like maybe Perez or someone like that (not saying it has to be him, just someone who is tried and true). That would be something I might go clamor to get. But other than wondering what your updates say, which I do appreciate and like reading....I feel the book is forgotten without me even reading it. I just feel Shooter could have made a much bigger splash with more talent elsewhere.

I think the only reason Shooter got a shot is because nothing was happening with sales for these characters and they wanted more. Shooters name stays in the fan press so why not give him a shot. Now that they are paying a high paid writer, I doubt they'd go get a big name artist. That would cost too much money. They are trying to make the books profitable. I think the numbers I saw said only 38,000 copies of Legion #38 were printed. Sales need to be better than that. You can't expect instant results from Shooter's stuff. I think the cover is stunning compared to the interiors. He draws the curves on women very well. What I can't stand is the bullshit Manga Dragonball-Z hair. It looks idiotic. Manga facial expressions are scattered everywhere. He needs to draw real people not Japanese cartoons. Manga was a fad for untalented artist. The fad is over. People need to draw old school again. cfs

I seen an ad for Manga-Batman the other day! 8 out of 10 books I pick up and hate instantly is because the art makes me want to puke as soon as I see it. I think the ratio was like 2 out of 10 back in the old days. It needs to be less about style and more about substance.
