Well, Heroes Con has come and gone. We all got back earlier today as Joey completed the long ride in record time. Between the 3 of us, the consensus was the show was a major disappointment. What seemed to be common between the three of us is there was no awesome deals to be had anywhere. In fact, searching out minor league deals seemed to be in short supply too although a few low dollar deals did turn up. My personal impression of the show was I basically compared it to last year. Last year I was only at the show for 1 day and left relatively happy with my purchases. My most major purchases was a Captain America #100 and a Wonder Woman #200. I didnt have any headliners this year. It could have been me, but I would swear the artist alley was expanded a decent percentage. Whereas that area normally took up 20 - 25% of the space, it appeared this year as though it was about 40% of floor space. If you were a creator groupie, this was probably a really good thing to you. The artist alley now took up the entire back area and was a few rows deep. The area seemed very busy when I walked their. Especially on Saturday. I also thought the artist lineup was weak. 1st Heroes Con I ever went to where George Perez didnt make it. I was disappointed to hear that Epting had canceled. But I later found out that he did indeed make it, but I never seen him. This new found real estate seemed to cut into the normal dealer area. For some reason, it showed. Whereas last year I found 4 to 5 booths I wanted to rummage through, this year I could hardly find one. A few themes in pricing seemed present. Either a dealer had $1 comics that was cherry picked trash. Or Dealers was loaded up in crappy conditioned books trying for premium prices. Or Premium books at outrageous prices. The dealer tables marked 1/2 price was loaded with crap nobody wanted. The booths where you looked at stuff you actually wanted, sticker price drove you away or you looked for the 1/2 price sign that wasnt there. I seen a lot of the high priced dealers holding firm on crazy stupid prices. The crowd was about the same. I hate being judgmental or anything like that but the Nerds were in full force. I could hardly walk anywhere without somebody passing by and a blast of body odor followed in the breeze they created. There was a few costumed people but not a lot. The ones that were there were rather amusing more than anything else. Even if they had a decent outfit, I found myself more ready to laugh. In the end, I thought the show itself didnt live up to the hype and comparison of previous years. I did walk home with about 100 new books, but not one blows me away or makes me beam with pride. It certainly was cool hanging with friends and Azbatx will eventually post pictures us getting to see comic sights we normally would never get to see which was truly one of the highlights of my visit. I still cant help but say that even though I am disappointed with the books I brought home, I wasnt disappointed with going and having a pretty damn good time. In the end, Im glad I went. Im just not real happy with what I got.

That was definitely the highlight of day #1 and maybe even the entire show! This is no joke, we seen probably at least 1/4 million worth of original art that night. Az has only hit on a small portion of it here and so far. The man truly had pieces to slobber over.

I can't believe this guy had a buckle that says POW! right above that boner he's packing. Con-boner is bad. This was Con-boner #2 that I had to witness for the weekend. #1 was from some 13 year old kid dressed as Superman. The worst was when Black Guy Spider-Man was walking around in Philly I believe. I think he was providing shade for people in Africa with what he had going on.

A lot of musicians do it or they wear abnormally long shoes so that women make assumptions. cfs

BINGI cannot overstate how awesome it was to get around all that original art. The pictures is only about 1/4th of what we saw. We werent able to photograph everything. You know Im kind of used to being around somebody who has a few nice pieces. Or a whole lot of mediocre stuff. But this guy had tons of great stuff! I would be lucky to own 1 or 2 of these pieces in a lifetime. This guy had a whole collection of it. Truly one of the biggest highlights of the show.
