Here's one that hit me awhile ago. I bought a Bronze Captain America in beautiful shape awhile back. Im not sure of the actual issue #, but lets say it was around #171. This thing was in sweet VF+/NM- shape. I got it for like $4. I thought it was a steal when I purchased it because of its condition. I brought it home and started skimming through it and notice the Marvel Value Stamp had been clipped. AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Dammit, that had to be one of the worst promotions in the history of comics and it snagged me again! So, now is the question. What value did this make my seemingly high grade copy into? From the outside, it looked like I had a beauty. But from the inside, it looked like I got bamboozled. I generally feel like if the other side of page is an advertisement, then it doesnt affect the story and its not as bad as a coupon that clips the actual story. Still...its a bad hit but... Just how bad is it???

As long as it didn't affect the actual story....if the book was very fine-near mint-mint...I personally wouldn't grade it any higher than a VG.If the book was a fine or lower with the coupon cut, regardless of if it affected the story or not,...it wouldn't be any better than a good. It's like the silver/bronze age books with a subscription crease.Even the ones that are hardly noticeable, even if it was near mint/mint,I wouldn't grade it higher than a VG.

I agree with that, but it seems such a harsh punishment to a book that is otherwise VF/NM-. It turns a book like that into just another rag.
