I don't read monthly comics anymore due to namely because I don't have the money for them, but before events forced me into my current financial state there were two titles that I did enjoy reading every month and you should check them out they're each great series in my opinion.
The Fallen Angel Peter David is IMHO the greatest American comic book writer in comics today and this is some of his greatest stories, along with some of the most haunting painted artwork by JK Woodard (who in later issues switches to standard pencils, inks, and Woodard even colors a few issues as well and still looks great). IDW picked up a great series after Volume 1 (published by DC Comics) was canceled. But as good volume 1 was, the current series is just better by a factor of 100. If you want a great drama, complex characters, violent action, and interesting city due yourself a favor and check out The Fallen Angel volume 2 from IDW.
Noble Causes is a basically a daytime super-hero soap opera, dealing with a dysfunctional celebrity super-hero family with its many different characters, many plot twists, and tons of sex. I prefer character plots over action plots this series is slow at times but the pay off is generally well worth it.
