I think sometimes that my youth and middle age days of collecting comic books sort of gave me the desire to learn about investing. Namely in stocks and so on. But my biggest regret was starting so late and bad timing. I had thought about doing it for a few years. My new job had a nice 401k plan that I started putting money into and then I quickly started seeing that money starting to add up. After a couple of years, I decided I need to have better and quicker access to my money. So, I finally took the plunge in October 2001, not long after 9/11 (figuring that would be a good time to get started).
I must admit, at the time I knew nothing about stocks and I had to learn somethings the hard way. But, my thirst for knowledge in stocks has never ended. And the longer i have been involved with it, Id like to think that my track record is getting better with it. But I certainly havent learned enough to make me rich yet. But just enough to pay for a few things and get me out of a couple jams from time to time.
My 401k on the other hand has been kicking butt!!! I have a nice little stash of money saved from my 401k and it seems to quickly grow. I have borrowed against it twice and it even helped me get my new home.
The trick now is to get my stocks rolling like my 401k. If I could do that, I would be set. But, Im also struggling to stay afloat with my current bank account and bills that need to be paid. As my bank account has been dwindling, I have taken a few more risks and chances with my stocks, hoping I can catch a break and ride a good stock up to help me have more emergency money. Lately I am doing better, but time is running out. Thus, this is my battle.
I often think of stocks as a Rubiks Cube. Something I have been able to figure out after tinkering with it for long enough. I have solved it numerous times. But Im not a genius who can do it over and over again. Im just smart enough to where if you give me long enough, I can figure it out. Stocks, I know are even harder than a Rubiks cube, but I think everything I learn gets me a step closer to being a smarter, wiser and more efficient and better investor. I think if people portray themselves as an expert and tell you that their plan works 100% of the time, you probably should run from them. Even the greats mess up from time to time.
I think the trick is just being right a lot more times than you are wrong.
Im hoping others on here will share their stories and ideas about investing and maybe this area can grow too. Like my comics, I find the stock world rather fascinating and interesting to the point where I seek knowledge on a daily basis. You can never learn enough.
Dont want no know it alls or braggers or bashers here. Just people who love to share the knowledge with each other and contribute constructive ideas. Im all eyes and ears if you're willing to share your stories here.
I really hope you'll join and contribute to this area if this is the area that speaks to you.
