I wouldn't say that comics is in any way over run with Manga influences, but I will say it seems a lot more present in current comics than Ive ever seen it. Even if there is only slight characteristics, I'm seeing Manga influences creep into the everyday titles I've always loved.
Sometimes it's blatant. It looks like Manga, it IS Manga. And Im not saying its all bad. Even though I dont care for it. Some artists are good at it. But personally I'd still rather not have it in my mainstream comics. Id rather the Manga fans stick with their own comics.
But sometimes the look is slight. Like, the whole picture can be done pretty seriously and look pretty damn good and then when you see the face, you see a Manga like face! Kind of drives me bonkers because it makes me take the characters less seriously. I know there is many different styles and flavor of Manga out there. From the kitty almost child porn Manga (to me the worst) to the pretty serious and almost Americanized version of it (to me the best).
It just seems to me like its being snuck in in little places here and there and we get more and more used to it. And then it opens the doors to bring it in slightly more. And I just dont know if there is a desire by the big companies to bring it in as much as possible, or they are just experimenting with it and will continue with the tried and true for many years to come. All I know is, when I buy a new book, it arrives and I start looking through it, I see more and more Manga influence. And it's happening slow enough to be barely noticeable. But I think clearly its around a lot more than it used to be.

If only they'd be influenced by the price structure.
