Somebody sent me jpgs of the Harbinger story from the new HC. Sigh! It's not enough to make me support the new company. Not that i really believe these guys will ever get into making comics like they imply they will.
But, anyway...the most striking visual reference for me was Renoir's "Two Sisters" painting in front of the safe. Coincidence? Or is there a deeper message and implication? I think there is.

I thought it was pretty well done, but due to the brevity, it basically left me wanting more. Do I think it was worth the price of the hardcover alone? No, but I think with the discount I got from Mile High, it was worth it to me, even with me already having the original books.

Do I think it was worth the price of the hardcover alone? No, but I think with the discount I got from Mile High, it was worth it to me, even with me already having the original books. I'm not saying I won't buy it eventually if it shows up in a store locally. I haven't seen it, but I haven't looked very hard either. As far as the story goes, it's like having one lego block. It's like trying to create a solar system with one planet. The story isn't bad, but like most Shooter stories, it poses more questions than it intends on answering in 8 pages. No single Shooter story is likely to excite me. I like the larger scope. One Shooter story hints to depth. It takes a greater structure to even start to impress me. Hints to something deeper are just teasers. I turn off the TV if the local stations are tossing up teasers in their ads. For me it's all or nothing. Put up or shut up. I'm sick of people using Jim's name and reputation to bait and switch the consumer. Following up with another writer undoes everything Jim's association brings to the project. I was told Jim did the project as a favor to Walter. I trust my source and I believe it makes sense. cfs

If I already had it, I wouldnt ask to see it. I came close to buying one on vf.com. I think they made some kind of a vfvss out of it. But, I thought the project was too expensive and I was just coming off Van Halen and couldnt afford it. So, I passed. That's as close as I got to seeing it. I havent seen one in person or online other than a picture of the cover, that is all I have seen of it.

Okay, you had me going there for awhile. Thanks! For some reason I checked everywhere but my own email account wondering if on some other board someone had sent me a copy.
Anyway, thanks. I read it and have mixed feelings on it. 1st off, I know its a Hirada origin story, I didnt get too into the story. And, I must admit not really understanding the end. I wondered if knowing the universe well would have helped me here??? Being someone who has read only 1/5th the issues made me wonder if that was a hinderance.
Not much action here. I suppose with only an 8 page Original of Hirada, its not going to be but so much action. Also, who drew it? It certainly was passable, but rather less than mesmerizing.
In some ways it felt like a Valiant story and others it did not to me. I'm kind of glad I didnt buy it now. I think it would be nice to own the hardcover and I may change my mind. But if I bought it for that story alone, I would have been disappointed.

But if I bought it for that story alone, I would have been disappointed. Shooter stories cannot be judged on single installments. I think the story is great. It's just not complete. We get a snapshot. The title of the story gives away the ending to some degree. I was more interested in the beginning. Why are they fighting in the middle of the night? Again though... the Renoir painting stood out immediately for me. The sceond thing that stood out was Harada's height. I never saw him as a tall and towering person. I also thought of him as short. It was supposedly drawn by Bob Hall and inked by Rubinstein. Jim probably suggested the inker. cfs

I guess the more I look at it, the more I understand it. Ive looked at it a few more times and reread parts and its not a bad story. You're right, by itself, it is nothing great, but slap 3 or 4 more chapters together and you would know its meshing together into something great. I would have liked to seen more than just 8 pgs.
