Just like the title says. What catagories for threads could or should be added? Or what can i do with what is already here to make it better? Just like the name of my site says...you got to start somewhere. But, you also cant stop improving either. Ive got the board started, but Im looking for ways to get people to join and remain as a core group of posters. Any and all ideas are appreciated.

Just an idea have catagories and boards on the comic books say like DC comic, Marvel comic ect... So you'll have a Batman board and so on ?? Or your comics you like and have things like that.

Yeah, I was/am/and still going to do something like that. I was looking to get most of the main catagories done 1st (which I think Im pretty much there) and then break down some of those. Comics is going to be very high on the list because its something that I have a lot of and that is one area I would really like to grow. So, I will be dividing it up very soon. Probably by time the weekend is over, it will be divided. Being at work is keeping me from doing a lot of changes at the moment. But, I will be continuing to tinker with it...trust me!

I think it helps to start small and expand as people show other interests. Usually people visit a messageboard for a specific reason. Gun enthusiasts look for a gun messageboard. Dog enthusiasts look for a dog messageboard. It helps the visitor know that he's going to come here and find like-minded people. You could have a category titles "other sports" and then split them up as people post a bunch of threads on T-Ball or whatever.
From a marketing perspective, you want to make sure the whole board gets traffic. People are going to jump to topics that interest them first. Only after they are fully involved will they venture into underwater basketweaving or rewiring the dash of your car.
I'm using absurd examples so that you know I'm not criticizing any topics you have picked. Everything you've done is fine, I just think you might be dipping into sensory overload if a guy came here on his 15 minute break to talk just comics or sports.
Every board needs and admin/error category so that users can vent. Everyboard needs a general discussion category that they can visit if none of the topics match what is on their minds.
I can't find the link right now, but I know it's possible to load an inline iframe with a chat session. You don't have to log in. You just pick a name and start chatting.

You give great examples cfs and Im sure you're right. But I dont want to be narrowed to one topic or area. I do want comics to be a Major part of this board if not the most major, but I still want to have other areas going. If they flop after a time period, I may drop them. Who knows. Participation will certainly determine that. Seems like Sports is getting some hits. And electronics have had a few. Im in absolutely no rush to get big. Heck, I could stay small to mid sized and be perfectly happy. Time will tell whether I downsize or not. I have already hidden a few that I didnt think fit. I feel comfortable giving the other threads time. But, your input makes a heck of a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing.

Right now there aren't many categories that interest me.
I'm not really wanting to discuss comics. That eliminates all those boards.
I blame the stock market & greed for the degradation of our middle class and our living standards. It's not a topic I like discussing.
I don't like talking about my personal life and specific details to complete strangers online. It's bad enough that somebody put me on spam list when I joined one board. I don't need ad agencies or their advocates stalking me because they know something specific and want to sell me something. It's what they do.
I'm not a fan of sports. I don't care that one person can run faster, throw further or hit harder. I don't think it makes someone a better person. I think there is more to be said for working together rather than working against.
Don't really have much to say about electronics. I watch less TV than ever now. I'm not interested in most games. I don't have an interest in shooting things.
I like discussing science & new advances in technology, but it appears to bore a lot of people.

You need to add to the boards what YOU like. Hey, posts some threads on it and see where it leads. Im not opposed to get other areas going. I guess what is up here now are things that interest me. Hoping maybe it will interest others as well. But, being a new board, I dont care if someone post about skinning catfish at this point. The thing I want is for people to post what they want. I dont want to make the board limited. The board to me is mostly about comics. But, I personally didnt want to make it ONLY about comics. So, I added threads and areas that interest me. Thats why I made it. I loved other peoples boards, but they didnt always have areas that interested me, that was okay for me, I just went to the areas I did like. Or, they would have areas I loved and shut them down. Which kind of hurt when you really enjoyed it. So, that is why I made my own board. I put topics up I like and if it fails, it fails. Im certainly open to ideas and suggestions. And hey, you dont even need my permission to start a thread. As long as its something that aint going to land me in jail. Post it.

I can do that, but ÚñÐêrÐðg's response is exactly the reason why I may decide to depart. Like everyone else, I work 40+ hours a week and surf as recreation. I say what's on my mind when it's on my mind. I'm not here to simply think and say what others wants to hear. The fact that I'm even coming here shows my support. Obviously the allocation of my time to come here is already underappreciated. Everything I've posted up until this point has been observational with the intent of being constructive. If your other poster doesn't like that, I can gladly leave you two to discuss comic book covers. For the FACTUAL record, I'm not putting ANY of your hard work down. I'm simply stating that the current topics aren't interesting to ME. This is intended to be informative so you'll know why I, one of your 5 members, had nothing to say several days in a row. I'm sure these categories would appeal greatly to millions of people who aren't here. Unfortunately, those people aren't giving me anything to read even if they did have something interesting to say. cfs
