The fact that I'm even coming here shows my support. Obviously the allocation of my time to come here is already underappreciated. I dont see how Ive done that cfs. Ive been glad that anyone shows up. I sought you out to take a look and your ideas are appreciated. I may not change my mind on some of the things you say, but I have listened. Everything I've posted up until this point has been observational with the intent of being constructive. If your other poster doesn't like that, I can gladly leave you two to discuss comic book covers. Why cant you both be here? I dont think anyone attacked you? Maybe he misunderstood you. Heck, I wasnt sure how to read it myself. If I didnt know you already, I would have felt totally slammed. As it is, I figured it was just the way you felt. Underdog may have took it worse than I did. He doesnt know you. It does kind of look like you were saying the board sucks. Thats okay. I had to think about it for awhile. I have the benefit of knowing you to a degree. He doesnt. Even so, he only said "why are you putting the board down?" Which is kind of what it may look like. I mean, it kind of looked like it to me too. Until I thought about it. For the FACTUAL record, I'm not putting ANY of your hard work down. I'm simply stating that the current topics aren't interesting to ME. This is intended to be informative so you'll know why I, one of your 5 members, had nothing to say several days in a row. I'm sure these categories would appeal greatly to millions of people who aren't here. Unfortunately, those people aren't giving me anything to read even if they did have something interesting to say. cfs You know, I didnt expect it to be easy. And let me be the 1st to say it hasnt been. It was hard for me to set it up and its hard for me to attract board members. Like the title of the board says...you Gotta Start Somewhere. Im trying to learn as I go. No matter how hard I tried, I couldnt get you to bring back your board. And I really tried. So, Im struggling with my own board. You're probably the biggest reason this board exists. Im trying not to bug you about yours. Im trying to give it a shot. I was hoping to have more posts on here. Im actually kind of satisfied with how many are here even though over half are mine. Just like yours, if the posts only trickle in, I'll soldier on. I hope you remain one of the 5 members. Which is only 4 if you take me out of it. I want you, brother j, Underdog and azbatx to come here and post. Honestly.... What you see here as my board is just me doing the best I can. If it isnt working for you....then I dont know what else to say.

I'm sorry if i misunderstood cfs, i just said what it looked like to me . But i said that to you only because i do know how hard gowaltrip is working on his forum and i think he does know it will take some time for people to find here. Its still new he as an admin will work out the good and bad in making an forum. I don't know if i made any scents.

I think you should take a look at suggestions you've already received...ie build the website and the board will follow. Just my humble opinion.

I think you should take a look at suggestions you've already received...ie build the website and the board will follow. Just my humble opinion. Thanks for trying to add constructive criticism starbrand, but I'm not sure what you mean by that. I sent a batch email asking for some visits. As far as looking at suggestions that have already been made for answers, I believe I have. This thread was written in the 1st month the board existed. Check out what the board was like then... How my website looked when I started outBTW, when you go to that link, a lot of the stuff on that page is clickable and will allow you to navigate through the old board as it was back then. The background will also change depending on what screen you are on, which is kinda cool if you ask me. It really gives a glimpse of just how this board was when I started. At 1st I resisted what cfs was saying, but then I realized he was right and I have even stated so elsewhere on this board. I tried to be open ended to many major topic areas and appeal to everybody and in the end it appealed to nobody. So, I changed my focus to what I knew or liked the best and felt I could work with the most....comics. I have revamped the board and tweaked it and narrowed it down to almost any and all things comics. The only side diversions are sports and music which get a bottom listing on the main board. 90% of all thread and category areas are about comics. I think I did change the focus. I used to have category areas on Electronics, Stock Market, Photography, Women, Work, Home Improvements, Etc. I was all over the place. cfs had valid major points and I heeded them in no time. When I started in July 2007, I had no experience doing any of this. I adjusted when I realized it was a smart thing to do. As far as building the comiccrack website, I'm sure I will. Im actually getting ready to start attending school on stuff like this. Im "ALL IN". I'm going to learn. I knew NOTHING when I started. And what I know now about html and other formats, is only enough to tweak. I want to be master of my domain and do with it what I see fit. The website will come. It's like "Gotta Start Somewhere" was in July 2007. It's in beginning limbo trying to find itself. It will. When I think of my site. I think of it in terms of years. I try and visualize where I will be 5 years from now with this. Not next month. But I don't think the problem with my board is lack of effort on my part. Sometimes I feel it has a lot more to do with bent noses. Some of it my fault, some of it not. For the people who came and never really did post, it was probably not caring for the content of my board. For the ones who were here and posted a lot and eventually left, something went wrong. I'm not trying to ponder that. I'm just trying to rebuild and get some wheels under this thing again. I really WANT to have a good message board full of activity. But I don't cry myself to sleep if no one shows up. I just keep trying.

Except for some of the CSS formating (which is for your default skin), the new subsilver clone skin is much easier on my eyes. I don't the mind black text boxes when the rest of the board is lighter. Thanks for adding it as an option. The only noticeable flaw is light green names on a light background. I can highlight the text to read it so that isn't a problem.

Defiant1 See if the Orange works better for you. I could see before you said anything that light green against a white background wasn't going to work. This seems to stand out for all my skins. For those of you who would like to use a generic alternate skin just do the following. Click on your name with is clickable. This will bring you to your profile. Click "Modify Profile" This will give you a many option selection screen. Scroll way down (about 3/4ths) down the page until you find "Select Skin". To the right is a dropdown. It should be on default. You can choose Alternate which is almost identical to this screen but has default action buttons (reply, modify, delete, etc). The Subsilver Clone skin is a default proboards skin which has virtually no graphics. Just a basic layout for a message board. With a few elements inserted. It's pretty much a plain site. But if you prefer to have that kind of thing, I would recommend that one.

Much better. Still not fond of Gray text, but I'm not complaining. If I can see 90% of the board I'm fine. My dad used to have a friend who painted signs for a living. He was rambling one day about which color combinations are best for advertising. He said that studies show that a bright yellow on dark brown are easiest for the eyes. It provides a very good contrast.
Contrast is more important than color selection. If you look at the windows color schemes, they usually stick to pretty much the same contrast levels in the color palette. I don't mind a dark background if the font stands out.

I wouldn't mind making a generic skin with a more likable (to me) color palette. But right now is not a good time to make one. I have tons of reading to do constantly. When I get around to it one day, I will put this on the to do list as an area to experiment with. For right now, I hope what I have is sufficient.

I think the background of the day sparked conversation and it gave a daily dose of something to look at. Just my opinion.

I think the background of the day sparked conversation and it gave a daily dose of something to look at. Just my opinion. I totally agree with you. It was a visual that made sure the focus of my board was about comics. And yes, it drove conversation probably more than any other subject. I'd say it was a success. I felt I needed to change the name of the board so I did to Comic Crack. And with it came a new skin. This skin does not lend itself to a background of the day. It has made me ponder other options to try and maybe one day get the comic background of the day back again. But right now, I am far too busy with school to even attempt or look into other options. Unfortunately, I've had to put this board on the backburner while I've tried to do what I need to do outside of the board.
