I got up this morning and noticed a lot of posts happened overnight which made me... ;D
I was reading and answering along. And I tend to use the "last 50 posts" thread a lot to keep me up with things. Well, I started going there and it wasnt working right. The posts were stretched WAY out horizontally and all but one was working. There was this one posted by Guest and the thread title was "Suggestion, Recommendations and Guest Room" and the message was a bunch of links but in machine language instead of an actual name. I clicked on it and got a bunch of Japanese porn links.
I tried looking for the thread on my message board and couldnt find it. However, when I searched, it showed up and when I looked at the last 50 posts, it was always showing up.
Finally, I just deleted it from my last 50 posts areas and it was gone. I copied the ip address and pasted it to my banned lists.
Having a porn bot didnt bother me so much as them having a thread I couldnt find on my board. Unless I just didnt look hard enough. The message thread wasnt clickable like others in the last 50 posts that I can actually go to. But it seemed hidden away somewhere on my board. That part bothered me more than anything.

Rik Offenberger had a guy who kept using anonymous proxies to post porn artwork that could be classified as kiddie porn. Eventually I found a way to block his image from coming through so he quit. He considered it to be a challenge to get around the IP blocks. Had he known how we blocked him, he probably would have tried work around solutions to that.

It helps to if you also copy the guest name it used and ban that as well. Or you can stop guest posting in all boards.
Every now and then those things get around on PB servers .

He kept using different ID's and IP's. The only thing that was consistent was the path and file name of the image he was posting. He was linking to a specific image. I had Rik put the file name of his picture as a censored word. I crossed my fingers and next time he posted the image--- the file path was corrupted---and the image was blocked. I think most messageboard owners want to keep a steady flow of posts. Blocking guests is a bit extreme unless you are running both a public and private area. I've seen China spambots finding their prey by searching for common board names like "general". I would advise people to title their boards with non-generic words. I've done well by blocking whole IP ranges that serve China and Korea. cfs
