You know, Ive been doing some hoping with this team since about Thanksgiving when they were blown out by Tennessee on the game they usually get up for one time each year and this year they didnt. Detroit honestly has the worst Defense I have EVER seen. I mean it. In all my days of watching football, I have never seen a defense look that bad.
However, which each passing week, I find myself pulling for them and hoping they can find a way to just win 1 game. I honestly feel bad for them. And considering its Detroit a city that is down on its luck with the Auto World being near collapse, this is a city that could use something to help them out. Instead, it has Detroit looking like the worst team ever in football and given 1 more loss, will make history by being the 1st team ever to finish 0-16.
I find myself just not wanting that to happen. And I know it probably will. I really dont want this to happen to any team. Not even my most hated team (the Cowboys) I wouldnt even wish this on them. I mean, you start practicing in like July and then there is the players, the coaches, the administration, all the people working in the stadium and yes, those poor fans who still seem to show up and got nothing in return.
And then there is the crazy thing about which team will Detroit show up with? They get blown out time and time again and then other weeks they are taking good teams down to the wire before losing. Week before last they had the Colts tied up 21-21 in the 4th quarter before letting it slip away again. This isnt the only close call theyve had. Theyve actually came close to winning 5 or 6 games only to fuck up in the end.
Now comes Green Bay for 1 last shot and honestly, I dont think they will win. But, they do seem to play better when they are on the road and yes, the 0-16 record is staring them in the eye. Me personally, Id love to see them rise up just once and have just 1 moment for all theyve been through. I just think its sad and I hate to see it.
Finally, the Coach. He's almost certainly going to be fired after this season and deservedly so. But he never bashed his team either. He is obviously not meant to be a head coach, but he has heart. One mistake is making his son in law the defensive coordinator which honestly, they are the worst defense I have personally ever seen. He should have fired his son in law, but he never did. Im sure most of you saw it, but after being blown out by New Orleans to be the 1st team ever to go 0-15, a reporter for Detroit News was badgering the coach about his defensive coordinator over and over. Marinelli kept his composure and answered him each time, but it wasnt enough. It was obvious this reporter was trying to make him lash out in anger. Seeing it wasnt working, he said "Don't you wish your daughter married a better defensive coordinator?".
Just one more indignity. I know people say you dont feel sorry for them when they cash their check, but regardless, it is what it is and I personally dont want to see the Lions go 0-16. But Im pretty sure they will. But if they even remotely make it look like a game with the Packers this weekend, I will be cheering for them big time! Go Lions!
This shit is sad....
