I haven't checked out the publisher's market share in a long time. It's amazing IDW is ahead of Image. It seems it's more Image's incredibly low market share of less than 3% than anything else. Image always reminded me of what a bunch of malcontent free agent atheletes who started their own league would look like, only in comics. I was raised on Stan Lee and grew up on Jim Shooter. I've never read an Image book and never will.

Although I will agree with some of your summation, I wouldnt go that far with it. Image to me has matured over the years and today puts out pretty good product. And even in the raw early years which I look at with great cringing, they actually had a few nuggets that I found pretty decent. My problem with the early days of Image was it seemed a lot more style than substance. A few actually did have decent stories going on, but more often than not, it was filled with a lot of pose shots and mindless fights. I really loathed a lot of product they put out. But, I have a lot of it too. And some of it is better than I thought it was back then. I have actually went back and read a few. Giving it another chance. But I will say, if I can look through it and think it was bad, it generally was. Some books I couldnt read for 10 pages before I had to put it down. Other books were shockingly not bad. Yes, you can say the same for Marvel and DC too. Many times over. But Marvel and DC learned along the way just like the rest of them. I personally think Image finally got over itself and has since learned what they needed to do to survive and put out good stuff a lot more often than they used to themselves. I can no longer think to myself Im not buying it because its Image. Now I actually look twice as long as I used to. But yes, there was a time they made me ill. I just think they are a better company now.

I know I went pretty far, and can't be construed as any sort of expert on Image, especially since I've never even read one of their books. They remind me of malcontent free agents starting their own league. Just how I feel. No doubt they've put out some decent books at some point given the volume of books they've published. I'll take your word they're a better company now. I heard that from acecomics as well.

I've never voiced this opinion anywhere before, but I believe the early Image creators helped instigate the comic market collapse. Not for the obvious reason of overprinted books that soon dived in value, but because so much artistic talent left Marvel at that time. The comic industry needs a healthy Marvel.
