I was just getting ready to respond to your email about this and you already put the word out over here. Man, congratulations! I have to admit that sometimes I wish I could have my own store. It seems like a labor of love! I hope your business is a success and you give all your friends over here at Gotta Start Somewhere the inside scoop on the things you learn. What's IN, what's Out. Your dealings with distributors, customers. Sales, etc. The whole 9 yards! I think it makes the message board more interesting to have people actually experiencing the business life of comics talk about their side of the story over here. Not just "this book is selling like hotcakes" which is something we want to know too, but the trials and rewards of owning your own store! Sharing the experience is sharing the knowledge! Good Luck Starbrand! I have to say in my situation, I envy you!

My store should be open Tuesday, Feb 2nd. I hope to still be hanging out here, but I'm not sure if it'll be as much as I have been. Suffice it to say I'm going to be very busy. I'll see how it goes. I was able to find a Super KMart that was out of business and clearing stuff out. I scored some great racks there. With those racks I've been able to merchandise the store in a manner I'm pleased with.

I'm sure all of us here wish you good luck and success with your new comic shop. I dont know how the other fellas feel here, but I've always had a wish to one day have my own shop too. Its sort of a pipe dream of mine. I kind of pictured it in a retirement type atmosphere for me. Where I really didnt need to count on it for my main form of living but yet it would enhance whatever retirement I had and give me an enjoyable atmosphere in the hobby I love to work. So part of me is envious and wishes you good luck. As for my board, I'm still hoping you show up. Im sure youll be busy and a drop off is understandable. But I hope you find ways to make it work with us in mind. Hopefully you'll set up a computer at the shop and be able to check in on slow moments. Make sure to update us on the latest trends, sales and happenings that one can only get from running a store. Don't hesitate to upload pictures of the store and let us see your beginnings and what you've done with the place. I'm sure there are ways you can fill us in an be an even more valuable contributor to this place than you already was. Regardless, You Gotta Start Somewhere appreciates you taking that plunge and wishes you much success! As much as it is a job that creates a living, make sure to enjoy it too!

How hard was it to get the loans and stock for your store?

How hard was it to get the loans and stock for your store? I already had the stock and ability to raise the cash. Not that I have much leeway, though. The hard part was working my full-time job until 7 days before the opening, and being extremely busy with mail order that final week due to Spidey 583. I sold tons of the 2nd and 3rd prints of that book on eBay. A few major things I should've already taken care of will be put off until the first week I'm actually open. I made a major score of racks which was huge, and I'm extremely pleased with my signs. The street I'm on is incredibly busy, and the signs are highly visible from the street. I certainly need to hit the ground running...
