My comic news widget down at the bottom of the page features a news clip of Obama Mania sweeping to comics and making creators think of coming out with maybe some new Black Super-Heroes.
While I will agree with that theory whole-heartedly, I also wonder if black heroes from the past may be getting ready for a potential price upswing?
Black Panther may be the most successful Black Super Hero and his 1st appearance in Fantastic Four #52 is not exactly cheap. I remember seeing that comic have a big meteoric rise back in the late 80s and early 90s. I would be hard pressed to see that comic gain a whole lot. But I wouldnt be surprised if it got a lit bump in action either.
I think the real steals may be the Black flop comics of the 70s such as Black Goliath and Black Lightening. Im sure nice copies of these can be found probably between $5 - $15. Are these worth swamping up now?
Is Luke Cage going to get another bump in price?
Are there others Im overlooking here?
I fully understand that this might not pan out, but is it too far fetched that there could be a little more interests in the Black characters that paved the way for what is happening now that Obama is president and creators are thinking of releasing more black heroes?
Although Im not going to wager any money on it, Ive seen less spark comics and wouldnt be surprised if some of these titles took a little sleeper jump on us either.
Let me be the 1st to put out a "Maybe" thread in the Could or Should be Hot Thread Area. You guys that come to my site have a lot of years in comics and tons of knowledge. I'd really love to hear your ideas and see this area grow!

DC's Steel and of course some of the last issues of the various Milestone titles (because the first issues are probably more easier to get than the later issues) and if I had to go with one title from Milestone it would be Static because of the character and title being most well-known and popluar.
I guess the other characters might be worth some money if they're sucessfully re-launched as a part of the DCU, which I doubt.

You certainly have some names up there I hadn't thought of. I was thinking my 70's comics were probably $5 - $15 material right now and could maybe make a move to the $10 - $30 range with any demand. The names you mention are names I obviously looked over. I would think for the most part, these would currently be near dumpster status. When I think of those doing something, Im thinking they would make that step to the $5 - $15 arena. Which when you're a dumpster book, aint too shabby! Thanks for weighing in!

I hope this doesn't come across as racist or xenophobic... but, I hope not.
Black Heroes and Villains of the past were HUGE deals back then (Silver Age-ish) they were created at great risk... who had any idea whether or not the market was ready for a character that wasn't white. For that reason alone, it would be a shame to see the resurgence of the Black Super-Hero made simply to ride the wave of Obama.
These characters deserve BETTER than that. They deserve to be written as created... and not for a cash-in.
What the "open-minded" liberal creators of today do not understand, is (re)introducing a black character simply based on the color of their skin is just as racist as NOT introducing a black character based only on the color of their skin.
If black characters are brought into the forefront in the near future, I hope it's done homogeneously and with reason other than to use him as an Obama stand-in... or cash-in.
Just my two-cents.
(it appears I may have misunderstood the topic at-large... I was reading more into "Are Black Superheroes about to see a resurgence... not the actual books of the past. Either way, my feelings don't change)
