It is surprising how IDW has taken over as #3 over the likes of Image and Dark Horse. Is it so much a factor that IDW is so very strong or has sales on Image and Dark Horse become so weak??? Dark Horse has seemed non-existent to me for a long time now. And Image you would figure to be holding it's own, but it seems the days of being a fanboy favorite are long, long, long over. Is it timed to be a bit concerned about one or both of those two?

I think both Image and Dark Horse have fairly stable niches, so are not necessarily competing with one another, the big two or IDW. In other words I am not overly worried.

That's fair enough. I wouldn't say either of them are on death's door either. Just surreal to not see them near the top of the heap and being passed by the likes of IDW. I mean what is it that is making IDW so hot? I cannot think of a series that really sticks out. I mean they have a lot of nice pieces and parts but do they have so many great series that now they are the next best thing to Marvel and DC? That's a bit shocking to me. I know they have a decent glut of stuff. Is it quantity that's doing it?

I'm sure it helps that everything IDW puts out costs more than Dark Horse or Image.

I'm sure it helps that everything IDW puts out costs more than Dark Horse or Image. That's a good point. In a comparison like this, I wouldn't want it based on dollar amount total. I'd rather it be in terms of issues sold. I'm sure the basis would be close either way. But if your average book cost's more more than the other guys, its going to be either to win the revenue battle.

Joe, Star Trek, Dr. Who, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Angel, Ghostbusters (the first 3 all have movies coming out very soon and Dr. Who and the CSI shows are still popular TV shows) among many other combined with a popular creator-owned titles like The Fallen Angel and Savior 27, and reprinting popular creator owned titles like John Byrne's Next Men, Danger Unlimited, Babe, Tank Girl, The Badger, Grimjack, The Maze Agency, Jon Sable: Freelance and The Rocketeer. They have a very high quailty production values and actually listen to the fans and the creators, and they still are willing to take gambles on titles and concepts that other publishers don't.

wow! That's impressive news cyberstrike, thanks for that tidbit! I have to wonder just how much of this is sales fluff more than anything. Since this is the first company to achieve this status since it's inception. With the way the comic market is, it almost seems like a good marketing pat on the back between both companies with exclusive publishing and deal status between the two, it just seems more like a joint venture agree reached than anything else. On the other hand, it's good to see a company like IDW continue to grow and expand while so many others struggle. While IDW has not made a lot of books I've been interested in, I've certainly been picking more and more of their stuff up over the years. They seem to be doing things right when so many others are not. Its good to hear someone is doing good. I think in this day and age when you hear nothing but layoffs, cancellations and so on, no matter how little or much fluff is or is not involved, it's just decent news to see.
