I'm a fan of Ivan Brunetti's work which covers a full range. Some is disgusting to even me. Some is gut busting funny to me. Some might even even fall flat. Regardless, I think that his funny stuff leaves an impression that outweighs any of his work that might fall flat or be too disgusting.
I picked up his new hardback book this past month...
A lot of it is reprinted from "Haw" which is one of his best works.
I first found out about Ivan Brunetti because of this comic:
Cruel and Unusual Punishment #2
The truth is, I heard about the comic but didn't even know the title, the publisher, or what it looked like. It took me over a year to track down the title and publisher. I had to mail off to Seattle to buy the comic and find out what the cover looked like. And you might ask "Why did you go to all that effort to get an obscure comic you've never seen before?"
Well, my friend owned a comic book store. He'd ordered one copy of the comic and it made him laugh so much that he photocopied the Ivan Brunetti cartoon on the back cover. The comic sold immediately but it left a huge impression upon him. He said he was disappointed he had to sell it. About a year went by. He was moving his store. He asked for my help and I did so as a friend. The photocopy he made sifted out of whatever drawer he'd saved it to and upon rediscovering it, he reread the cartoon and laughed. He'd photocopied the cartoon "Crack Babies".

or here if the image will show:
So my friend started telling me how funny the comic was, but he couldn't remember anything else about it. I agreed that it was funny, so my quest to find an actual copy took another year. Eventually I ordered it out of a catalog from Starhead comics.
Cruel and Unusual Punishment #2 is a collection of various cartoonist. A true underground effort. It is one of the funniest comics I've ever read. From then on I gave anything with Ivan Brunetti's name a shot. I own two pieces of his original art. They are published in Haw and reprinted in his new hardback.
