Thought I would fill anyone who was interested in on my progress in school. I am just about done with my 1st semester and I'm loving the learning and experience, but I must admit at times to being frazzled from late nights and tons of reading. I have read 4 text books front to back in the last 8 weeks. I have 3 Certification exams next Tuesday. I'm kicking ass grade wise in school, but I admit its an extreme longshot for me to pass all 3 exams. Heck, even 1 might be a stretch. Im the only one in my class going after all 3. I've really been pushing myself.
Anyway, as part of the assignment, I had to build a website from scratch and upload it to the school server. It wasn't too hard to think of a site, I just basically thought about here and visioned what I'd like to be able to do in my minds eye. I took the original "Comic Crack" front page and tuned it up quite a bit in my opinion. Yes, I know, the amateur areas stick out like a sore thumb. But trust me, the jist of my 1st semester was to learn basic html and css. The flashier, glitzier stuff comes in later semesters. I'm certainly going to dive into that when the time comes. My work with html before school was usually just tinkering with it. Before I started this site, I really had NO knowledge of html. When I started school, I had enough ability to work with something and tinker with it, but not much more.
This is where my class comes in. It basically taught me a lot of basic concepts and the why things are the way they are kind of deal. And how to attempt the process of coding, starting from scratch.
I have to admit of course to using George Perez's drawing on the front page. And I also have to admit to using a background I found on one of Defiant1's backgrounds for one of his checklists. I just found it perfect for what I was trying to do, so I hope he don't mind. Everything else, I literally built from scratch. Please review all links because all links work. I'm probably happiest with the "Covers" page, although relatively easy to do. And least happy with the "Conventions" page, although that was a lot more difficult to do.
I have no idea how long my teacher will keep this link live on the schools server. So view it while you can. I would expect about 2 months is normal, because when we started class, the previous class still had their sites running. I do know it can be anywhere from a week or so to about 2 months. So, I urge you to view it while you can. Again, its just learning the basics at this point. Regardless, I'm still open for criticism.
It's been fun learning what I have. I hope to eventually transfer some of the new knowledge over her. But for now, this is where I'm at....
